I swear I watched the whole thing but didn't notice anything about mku or kidnapping. I'll admit though that I kinda zoned out at one point when she was monotonously rambling for like two straight minutes. Or maybe I was secretly LSD brainwashed to ignore it because of back when I was in school and did like three papers in a row on MKUltra!!

I don't wanna sit through it again; can someone with a better attention span/less Company conditioning point out the time when she gets to that subject?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-03-09

There isn't, really. It's vagueness about "banksters" running our country that lets someone of a certain bent assume she's talking about all the stuff THEY don't want you to know. She also talks about making enough money to not have to work for people who want you to do what they want you to do, which I'm sure is psycho-language for "I was the prisonoer of the Illuminati and they forced me to do things and now I'm free to tell you the TRUTH, so MK Ultra booga-booga-booga."

baleen - 2014-03-09

She says it's MK-Ultra mind control that are keeping Hollywood people enslaved to her masters. She tells people to google MK-Ultra to learn more about it.

It is a completely unintelligible ramble, but so are all conspiracy theories.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-03-09

I can see how if you're of a certain mindset, this would seem like validation that some shadowy cabal of satanic lizard-people is secretly making you say crazy things which drive away sex partners and make you unemployable.

But it's just noting that the rich run things and fuck things up. Nothing new there. It's just so lacking in specifics that she could be talking about Goldman-Sachs or the Antichrist.

Also, I heard a story about Russia Today on NPR. They're basically an "anything that makes the West look bad, we air it, anything in the news that makes Russia look bad, we ignore it" kind of network. They don't appear to be out-and-out propaganda, but they're VERY selective about what facts make it to air.

TheOtherCapnS - 2014-03-09

Or as OldZircon aptly put it "the Fox News of Russia"

SolRo - 2014-03-09

Even if what SPK says were true, it still wouldn't be on the Fox News level of "terrorist fist bump", "Kenyan, Kenyan, Muslim! we're not racist!", etc, etc, etc.

Other US news networks equally parrot whatever spin the US government puts on international issues.

And don't forget RT is for western audiences, so it would make sense to cover mostly western topics.

exy - 2014-03-10

I don't believe that "Russia Today" and "RT" are the same, even though that IS what RT stands for (it was rebranded as RT in 2009). RT is supposedly independently controlled, while Russia Today is run by a guy Putin put there to keep it "on message."

http://54evil.com/discussion/216/putin-lapdog-now-in-charge-of -russia-today-not-rt/

Russia Today sounds like a good thing to call "the Fox News of Russia," but while RT probably has the same bias, I think it puts out some reasonable reporting.

exy - 2014-03-10

That is: RT is for outsiders, and Russia Today is for Russians.

"rape culture"

Ok, when did this term started to become so "popular"? Internet social justice warriors i assume.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-03-09

When the GOP and like-minded guys started saying how you dress = you deserved it? Maybe laws involving trans-vaginal ultrasounds and requiring victims to buy their own rape kits? Military rapes going unpunished? Upskirt photos being declared legal?

Really, the list is quite extensive. Though I'm assuming you're upset because someone said Pepe Le Pew cartoons are part of this, too?

poorwill - 2014-03-09

I think he's upset because he's a rapist.

TheOtherCapnS - 2014-03-09

In Riskbreaker's defense, it is kind of a fucked up thing to get your mind around. Even I met it with total (though quiet) skepticism when I first encountered the idea. But if you think about it long enough, you kinda see that it's real. And like most things, it isn't really like either extreme paints it to be, but it's there.

Riskbreaker - 2014-03-10

I just keep seeing the term being thrown around a lot these days. I think it's sad that both extreme sides of the political spectrum are toying around with this term. Also, in case you guys are that curious, rape is about the last thing i like to use as "comedy" material for witty internet posts. I hate people using that word lightly.

TeenerTot - 2014-03-10

If you're not a woman then maybe you don't get it. From a young age, we are immersed in it. As girls we are told the "rules" of how to act so you don't get yourself raped. Dress a certain way. Don't wear too much makeup. Don't go places alone. Don't drink when you go out. Don't park so far from the store. Don't act too proud. Don't act too meek. Don't flirt. Don't walk home alone. Don't walk home with a man. These rules do constitute a "culture" of sorts. A culture that put the onus on the women (and men, too) to NOT get themselves raped because it's clearly going to be your own fault because you did SOMETHING against the rules.

poorwill - 2014-03-10

"Also, in case you guys are that curious, rape is about the last thing i like to use as "comedy" material for witty internet posts. I hate people using that word lightly."

Riskbreaker takes being a rapist very seriously.

SolRo - 2014-03-10

ehh, Teener...

there's a massive difference between trying to avoid something bad and being blamed for something bad happening because you didn't avoid it.

it's one of the concessions for living in an imperfect world.

Hooker - 2014-03-10

No, actually, they're both victim blaming.

baleen - 2014-03-10

Rape culture is absolutely real.
Almost every woman I've ever been with has admitted to being raped in some fashion. I would go as far as to say that virtually every woman has been sexually molested in some way or another.

I would go as far as to say that we live in Eisler's male dominator culture. If you aren't a woman you probably have never felt it before. SolRo, don't be a dolt.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-03-10

Tom Arnold is still touring, I think. If that isn't proof of shadowy banksters manipulating the public, I don't know what is.

TeenerTot - 2014-03-10

SolRo:

If you think you can "avoid something bad" in reference to getting raped, you don't really get it. The "rules" are imposed on women and DON'T EVEN WORK. A rapist is gonna rape, no matter what you're dressed like. But we are still TOLD to do these "nice girl" things to AVOID this shit??? How is that not in itself making the victim responsible? Sorry for all the CAPS, but this makes me so darned mad.

TeenerTot - 2014-03-10

Well dammit that was supposed to be a reply to above.

SolRo - 2014-03-10

I think you're bunching waaay too many things under your one definition of 'rape culture training(?)'.

It would be a bad idea, for a man or woman, to go out alone, dressed in expensive clothes, get wasted, and then try to walk home alone at night.

"culture that put the onus on the women (and men, too) to NOT get themselves raped"

Pretty sure the only places where rapists are defended are on fox news and the Midwest, and only when the rapist is a white football star.

And if you're expecting the rapists to do the right thing and not get rape-y if the chance presents itself, then you're delusional.

(and if I haven't made it clear; Rape is bad. There isn't an excuse for rape, ever. At the same time avoiding situations, where the risk of an attack is increased, is a good idea.)

baleen - 2014-03-10

Jesus Christ dude, get out of the fucking house.

TeenerTot - 2014-03-10

"It would be a bad idea, for a man or woman, to go out alone, dressed in expensive clothes, get wasted, and then try to walk home alone at night."
If it were about how you're dressed, we could assume that burka-wearing women in Islamist theocracies never get raped, right?

"At the same time avoiding situations, where the risk of an attack is increased, is a good idea."
Please explain all the situations I should avoid. And don't forget that most rapes are perpetrated by someone the victim KNOWS. So be sure to include every situation where I might be around someone I know.

TeenerTot - 2014-03-10

GODDAMMIT this was meant as a reply again. I'm just too riled up.
