I had no idea what MDE was so I did some googling.

I guess whoever they are, they're not terribly bright, because the guy behind this kicked off his genius scam by announcing the entire thing publicly on Facebook, using his real name. He then went on to inform everyone how much he could bench.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-12

They're a group of hipster trolls from NYC, known for pulling elaborate pranks and talking about themselves. They like to think of themselves as some sort of super-3dgy internet art collective, but I think you can draw your own conclusions on that one. We've got some of their videos on here already, check the milliondollarextreme and Sam Hyde tags.

They are not terribly bright, and Mr Hyde, at least, is semi-homeless and on the FBI radar for a few previous cases of fraud.

On the one hand, their TED talk prank was pretty funny. On the other, they're egotistical namefags who try desperately to brand themselves as "the internet's Cool Kids", despite the fact that they're homophobic, goateed, trilby-wearing NEETs, pushing past thirty, who treat everyone else like shit, wear food-stained clothing, and spend all their free-time playing XBox. Oh, and they love to make Fight Club references, because that's real cool.

They're like the love children of Maddox and Nick Bravo.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-12

I don't think they're from NYC because Sam Hyde at least is (according to his facebook anyway) on the south shore of Massachusetts near Fall river. Unless he moved or lied, either's possible.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-12

I think he mentions somewhere that he's currently living in Brooklyn, but he could be lying, and it would make sense if he was originally from Fall River. That's the same town his friend Mike Harms, the "project leader" of Dark Skyes, is from.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-12

You've been following these guys for awhile, right, OZ? I don't know much about them aside from the videos you and others have posted. Do you know if he's really a goon? I can't search SA on account of the whole paid forum thing.

I feel kind of sorry for him, since he does appear to be in financial difficulty, and apparently Anon spend most of last night sending him pizzas and making harassing phone calls. But there's a big difference between pranking and outright fraud, and it'd be hard to stay sympathetic if he really has crossed that line.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-12

I haven't been following them at all, I just enjoy most of the videos that show up here and I'm pretty sure I saw Sam Hyde clear a room at a stand up comedy night I was forced to go to out of social obligation 4 or 5 years ago, but that was years before I knew about MDE so I could easily be misremembering.

Anyway, I haven't seen his Facebook in a year at least, he could easily have moved. If he's living in Brooklyn and has an apartment the size of the last one I saw a video of him shot in then he's a pretty wealthy man, it wasn't anything fancy but it was big enough to probably be a few thousand a month in Green Point.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-12

Anyhow yeah, he says Brooklyn right at the beginning of the video, I guess he moved.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-12

I know people who've been visited by the FBI for a lot less than the pranks these guys have pulled.

Hell, a guy I used to know was once visited at his home by two X Files looking agents from the FCC because he was stealing cable. No cease and desist or anything, they just sent some guys over.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-12

This is definitely not one of his better videos.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-12

Really his videos where he's commenting on something else on line all tend to suck, but when he's actually interacting with real people he has some great moments. That speech he gave at a regional anime convention a few years ago was pretty good, and his standup can be great if he has a big enough and unsympathetic enough audience. I haven't really seen much that I didn't see on here, though.

http://www.horse-news.net/2014/03/from-skeptics-desk-dark-skye s-aka.html

Summary: over the last couple days, people have uncovered a growing pile of evidence that suggests Dark Skyes, the godawful brony dating sim featured on poeTV a little while back, is actually an elaborate scam orchestrated by this greasy-haired fellow and a handful of his online groupies. The story is still breaking, but there are currently two mane theories as to what's going on:

1) There is no game, and the Kickstarter is a ruse. Sam Hyde, the greasy racist NEET shown here, was planning on defrauding his backers and using the money raised to pay his rent and his alimony.
2) There is a game, and the controversy itself is a prank, perpetrated by unknown sources at SomethingAwful.

Regardless, everyone involved in the Kickstarter has been doxed, and furious herds of bronies have been rampaging across 4chan, DA, Reddit, and other places, calling for blood.

Sudan no1 - 2014-03-12

The people at "horse-news" come across as shitheaded losers as well. All you manbabies deserve each other, five stars for that.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-12

Hay, you'll get no argument from me. Manbies trolling manbabies trolling manbabies, that's the internet for you.

Scrimmjob - 2014-03-12

My theory is: There is no game, and the Kickstarter is a ruse. Sam Hyde, the greasy racist NEET shown here, was planning on defrauding his backers and using the money raised to buy some rogaine to help fill in his shitty facial hair.

exy - 2014-03-12

Kickstarter itself is the ruse, launched just for this navel-gazing brony implosion of boringness

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-12

I blame Tom Green for this sort of thing.

misterbuns - 2014-03-12

Yeah, his schtick is Tom Green trying to be Andy Kaufman.

StanleyPain - 2014-03-12

Is there any group of people more easy troll than MLP fans? I'm thinking the evidence is overwhelmingly in the category of "no."

StanleyPain - 2014-03-12

I take it back..I think sports fans might have a slight edge in that contest.

misterbuns - 2014-03-12

If Dark Skyes is an MDE troll (and it looks like it is), it will be the best thing they've done.

His stuff usually isn't funny.

misterbuns - 2014-03-12

just spent a second on the KS page.

why did they use kickstarted?

they aren't going to reach their goal now, if they had made this an indieagogo they would be able to walk away with their 1500 whatever dollars.

American Standard - 2014-03-12

Screeches "HEY BITCH!" at the first woman in his line of sight and start bagging on her appearance... while dressed in laundry day sweats and sporting 3 days of hair grease.

K bro.

Not funny. Just a bully. Glad he was caught.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-03-12

He did it for the lulz.
