Despite the sideshow quality of daytime TV, I'm glad that Boomer is getting his perspective out there.

infinite zest - 2014-03-26

What's funny is that the "sideshow" hosts (Jerry, Maury, etc.) are much more empathetic than this bald-headed douche. For example, there was an episode of Maury where a guest was terrified by mustard or pickles or balloons, running out of the room when they saw it. The audience laughs, but Maury is completely understanding in the face of what many see as a "funny" or "weird" phobia. Same goes for Jerry, for all of its "the show's not over until a chair's thrown and tits are shown" nature of the program, Jerry provides insight into his guests troubled lives in a completely non-condescending way.

One of the people I'm contracted to work with is terrified of dogs. Not like "oh there's a dog I can't be in the room" but I have to call ahead anywhere I take him to make sure there are no dogs in the area, and that no dogs have been there. Even a magazine or TV show with a dog sets him off in a panic. The other kids in his various activity groups think it's strange, and I nor his parents really understand it: he was never attacked by a dog, as far as his parents know, nor did he ever see a film like Cujo. He's just wired to be afraid of dogs.

Point is, we don't treat him like he's got some freakish phobia that he needs to overcome, that dogs aren't bad, that he's different, that his phobia limits him to a lot of life's experiences, etc. like Dr. Phil says here. He's just an asshole who thinks people who live life in a different way than he does are wrong, because he's right.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-27

I wonder if that kid of yours would be alright around Boomer? Maybe you should show him Boomer some time, and see if that helps him with his phobia?

infinite zest - 2014-03-27

I was actually just thinking that. Basically I work one-on-one with kids and adults with developmental disabilities, serving as a caregiver when the parents are on out of town.. mostly the usual stuff like making sure they get to work, and fun stuff like cooking and going to movies. It's kind of in the parents' hands what I can and can't do, but that's a great idea.

The kid in question is pretty high on the autism spectrum with a few other ticks that I've been helping him with when I'm around: for example, he'll repeat everything said to him verbatim before responding to a question, and I've found that doing some little voice lessons has helped: If he's singing a song along with me or with other kids, the repetition ceases, so I encouraged the parents to enroll him in a musical arts group I work with.

bluiker - 2014-03-26

-20 stars for Dr. Phil.
+5,000 stars for Boomer.

exy - 2014-03-26

He brings Boomer out around 17:30

Scrimmjob - 2014-03-26

I hope Boomer got a couple of bucks for doing this.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-03-26

Boomer's positive energy vanquishes any barrier or obstacle, even my own cynicism and judgmentalism.

Fuck you Dr Phil, you condescending prick.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-26

Boomer is too good for Dr Phil. I haven't watched this yet, because I get fairly pissed off at the way TV talking heads treat Boomer, and what with all the personal problems that have cropped up for me over the last week (not to mention Oderus dying), I think the LAST thing I need right now is to be screaming at Dr Phil's stupid face. If I know Boomer, nothing that fat balding prick does will phase him, but I am not as awesome and positive as our favorite pup.

How bad is it?

Billy the Poet - 2014-03-26

Boomer's a dog. Dog's aren't even phased by assholes. That's why I like them.

EvilHomer - 2014-03-26

OK, I watched it. It's actually not as bad as I'd feared, especially compared to some of the other things Boomer has appeared on. Phil's far more of an asshole to Seanna... who's actually pretty cute for a furry. You didn't get her number, did you Boomer? ;)

Billy the Poet - 2014-03-26

I hope my phone stuck that apostrophe there. Jesus.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-27

I'm glad it worked out Homer and it didn't seem too bad.

I didn't get her number, but we did a fistpound off stage, then met again as we were leaving the studio for the cars. When I got back home I looked her name up and found her on Fur Affinity and sent her a note.

I think it is cool that we were on the show together, and that's a memorable slice in time.

betabox - 2014-03-27

I've always thought "Dr." Phil was a colossal asshole, and that Boomer was someone who had a lot of fun.

This video only reinforced that.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-27

I didn't know too much of what Phil was about, I don't watch all that much TV. Now I do want to know more about him, and read one of his books.

Boom

Adham Nu'man - 2014-03-29

Hey Boomer, I was curious: do you also own a dog or some other pet?

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-29

No Dog right now, but I do have a pet toad named Denise Hoppy. It's been almost 10 years since I had Yoder, my Eskimo, and people wonder if I do, but I am my own Dog these days.

http://boomerthedog.com has pictures of the three Dog's I've had.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-03-29

You just seem so excited to see other dogs that I figured you'd like to have some company at home.

Fuck Dr. Phil.
Boomer handled himself with grace and charm.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-27

Thanks, I don't know if Phil really knew what to do with me, he really didn't have a relationship to work on, except maybe my relationship with the Human race.. :)

I was glad to do the show though, it was something different in their lineup, since they usually don't have animal stories.

Boomer

kingofthenothing - 2014-03-26

My grandma saw this not too long ago.

So now she knows what the internet knew back in 1999.

I'm hoping she'll be dead by the time Dr. Phil gets to investigating YouTube.

infinite zest - 2014-03-26

Ah, 1989... I sure miss the old POE-Monochrome sometimes...

infinite zest - 2014-03-26

Oh.. it does say '99. A little dust speck on my monitor made it look like an "8." I stand by my joke.

Kids these days with their memes and their tweets will never know the simple joy of knowing just how many balls Ric Flair has eaten.

infinite zest - 2014-03-26

"You're missing an awful lot of life..." (!?!) Boomer's been interviewed by Vice, on National Geographic, what'd YOU do today?

Sudan no1 - 2014-03-26

not to mention running a very cool pirate radio station until The (hu)Man shut it down.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

Dr Phil? Well, he fucked Oprah.

Okay, maybe not in real life... but in my mind he did, and it was INCREDIBLE!

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-27

That's right Sudan, now I have an AM broadcast, low power under the rules, that just reaches my neighborhood, on AM 690. I used it to promote being on Tosh.

Info is on my Dogblog, http://boomerthedog.net/blogdog/ and there's a video of the promo, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=890gGb_xAwU

Woof!

Boomer

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-03-28

oh wow, just watched the Tosh interview you linked. Pretty cool that you get to meet all these people. I wish we could (dog)dish about how they are off-camera.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-29

I'm going to write it up as articles when I get a chance, because when people go on shows, you never really get a feel for what the behind the scenes process is like.

Dr. Phil, I never saw him before I got to the stage. I asked if he stopped by to see guests, (when I was in the dressing room), they said he's getting ready for the show too.

I met Tosh in the green room first, and we chatted all along while setting up the bits to do. I like where Tosh is coming from and we hit a good stride on the show.

Friends called to tell me that Jimmy Fallon used a clip from Dr. Phil and told the ladies, there's your man.. ;)

Cherry Pop Culture - 2014-03-27

Of the entire time I was lurking on POERed and been a viewer here, I have never seen Boomer until now. I had to see what else there was linked to his name. I don't have an affinity for him, but he is an entertaining weirdo.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

I didn't watch the whole thing yet, but I want to comment before this slides off the page.

I usually like Dr. Phil. He's great when he's in his element, which is (for example) handling an abusive mother in law who is accusing a father of molesting his daughter without any evidence. Or helping people lose weight. If he doesn't know what to make of Boomer, well, I don't blame him. In the real world, Boomer wouldn't be talking to Dr. Phil if there wasn't a problem. And, come on, it would have been lame for Boomer to not be challenged. If Boomer came off well, I think that's partly a testament to Dr. Phil, who could have made him look like a total creep if he wanted to, believe me.

I don't know what to make of Boomer, either, Like Boxxy, he's so adorable that it's almost creepy. The acceptance he's gained in the POE community is heartening, a touching surprise. It makes me think better of you all.

If I think of Boomer as a performance artist, that makes the most sense to me.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-03-27

What are you talking about dude? Boomer is a DOG!

Bort - 2014-03-27

I will never understand Boomer. I will never get what makes him tick. But he seems to be happy on his own path, he's not hurting anyone, so why shouldn't I be glad he's who he is?

Godspeed Boomer, you delightful unknowable pooch.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-27

I don't think Phil really had an answer for me, it might have been because we just didn't have time. Part of the idea of going on was to woof my story, and see what Phil had to say about it.

Yup, I'm a Dog, but performance artist can be a way for some people to take it, and I do like to perform and be a Dog for others, a great thing to share.

Boomer

EvilHomer - 2014-03-27

"handling an abusive mother in law who is accusing a father of molesting his daughter without any evidence."

Oh, John!

Of course we accept Boomer. We accept all kinds, even you! And I don't really think Boomer's adorableness is creepy; it's inspiring and heartening, too sincere and too natural to come off as creepy. Boxxy, yes, she is rather creepy, in a she'd-stab-you-while-fucking-your-brains-out sort of way, but not Boomer.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

>>Boxxy, yes, she is rather creepy, in a she'd-stab-you-while-fucking-your-brains-out sort of way, but not Boomer.

In your case, that wouldn't require a whole lot of fucking.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

>>Of course we accept Boomer. We accept all kinds, even you!

I've been coming to POE sites for about ten years, and no one has attacked me personally since... well, since last Sunday, so I guess you're right.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

What the hell was that, anyway, did Homer just white knight on Boomer's behalf?

As I've said before, Creepy is not an actual thing. It's an aesthetic. Like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder. For example, in real life, Boxxy wouldn't actually stab you while fucking your brains out. That's entirely in Homer's imagination.

When people say that something or someone is creepy, it's usually because they can't actually accuse them of doing anything wrong.

And when I specifically say that someone is SO ADORABLE it's creepy, it refers to my own inability to comprehend his innocence. It's actually a complement, though I can understand if it was misunderstood.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

PS Homer white-knighting for Boomer = Just the right amount of ADORABLE!

EvilHomer - 2014-03-27

Ah, I see. I stand corrected. When I think of someone being so adorable IT'S CREEPY, I think of them as actually being creepy (Pinkie Pie or Hangry, for example). Not that it's impossible to fathom how adorable they are.

Anyway, I've been sticking up for Boomer for years now, so it's not like any of this is out of character. We all have! He's been our friend since PoE Red, you should know this by now. And dude, Boxxy is a total yandere. I stand by my stabbing hypothesis.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

>>Boxxy is a total yandere.

I had to google that. Something to do with anime, I think.

>>I stand by my stabbing hypothesis.

When they manage to convict her of murder, you're going to give me such a hard time!

I don't know why Pinkie Pie is creepy. She's a cartoon character, behaving like a cartoon character. Seems like classic Bugs bunny/daffy duck stuff.

I am now living with ten cats, but most of them belong to a friend who has become disabled, so this does involve a connection to humanity. I think Dr. Phil may have a point about the lady with the bunnies, is what I'm saying.

It's weird, but I only became aware of Boomer recently. He doesn't seem delusional. He knows what reality is, and he seems pretty happy. A trans-gendered person who is a man trapped in a woman's body is usually unhappy, so it still seems to me that Boomer is, at the most fundamental level completely human, and some kind of mad artist. It seems like a way of making a connection with other people, and a way of making people happy.

>>Anyway, I've been sticking up for Boomer for years now, so it's not like any of this is out of character. We all have!

Of course, there's no such thing as "out of character", right? Nobody ever does anything that they wouldn't do. But I wouldn't have expected it, from you or anyone else in here, and everything I say about it being "heartening" and "adorable" is very sincere.

I love it when people turn out to be richer and more complex than you expected. Here's an interesting fact about Boxxy. Occasionally, she turns up in the background of someone else's video, and she's not like you'd expect. She's quiet, and geeky, and painfully awkward. Want to see the video that turned my weeks worth of googling a weird subject into a four year obsession?

http://youtu.be/kUG8Q0HXXXY

EvilHomer - 2014-03-27

Yeah, I think you've had this conversation before. I believe I yelled at you for making fun of Boomer, before you knew who he was, and then you apologized and started talking about how you didn't expect any of us to be nice to a dog like Boomer. Is that really how you see the rest of us Mr Holmes? As total assholes?

I mean, maybe one or two of us are total assholes, sure, but on the whole I think we're pretty amiable.

As for Pinkie, watch this, in particular the spider climb she does right at the beginning:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RX46NVv0CI

THAT IS CREEPY! I'm sorry, but that goes way beyond acceptable cartoon character behavior. And that's just Pinkie PIE, not even Pinkamena! Ask Boxxy about it, I'm sure she'll agree with me.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-27

I do miss Poe-red, I remember being surprised to get on there out of the millions of odd sites out there, and I really didn't have much content on my page, just my weird morphic Dogs. On top of that my Exhibit generated 100 comments or more if I remember right.

I liked the debate there, it was real, when Furries didn't seem to know what I was doing.

Boomer

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-27

I'd never really noticed it before, but Boomer kind of looks like Crispin Glover.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

YES! I think I'd always been aware of it subliminally without making the connection.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-27

I have been compared to Crispin, and also Quentin Tarantino, and guess what, my friend Ric Sheepdog looks like Jack Black!

Boom

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-03-28

haha! I didn't think about that, but you're right. He's also really well-preserved for a 48 year old.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-27

>>Is that really how you see the rest of us Mr Holmes? As total assholes?

This is awkward.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-29

I was thinking that Boomer can't really be a dog if he uses a computer, but Boxxy explained that for me.

You obviously haven't been watching "Dog With a Blog".

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-29

I have to catch up with this year's Dog With A Blogs, I have Love Ty-Angle, Stan Runs Away and I Want My Nikki Back episodes to watch yet.

Stan is pretty real to me.

Not the Disney one, but I do have my own as a play on, and tribute to Stan's blog,

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-03-29

That's hilarious. It remnnds of the time when I thought people were talking about that other "Boomer The Dog"

EvilHomer - 2014-03-29

Yeah, I noticed your Blog With a Dog the other day. I giggled like a schoolgirl when I read that!

Is that show on Netflix? I don't have cable, but I'd like to check it out some time.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-03-30

Luckily since the Here's Boomer show is so old and forgotten, there isn't too much confusion now.

Hi Homer, I don't know if the show is on Netflix, but it's on iTunes at 1080p, great for seeing all of Stan's facial expressions when he talks. They have been getting better too, and every so often he surprises me when a new expression pops up.

There are some Dog With A Blog on torrent for free as well, a few 1080s and more 720s.

Glad that you liked my new blog, I had to do it.. :) I might keep that name long after Stan's show is off the air and forgotten.
