Ah yeah. I mentioned this in the other Rick and Morty submissions. It's really gross. I never guessed that Roiland would turn it into a show on adult swim.

Me neither...since it's not that funny.

4 stars for historical value though.

Think this got sent in as a pitch to the network?

Just goes to show you that making stuff even if its shit is better than making nothing.

Yeah I submitted it strictly for the historical parts. It's kind of like watching the Jesus vs. Santa Claus short of South Park and comparing it to.. well the first couple of seasons weren't very good either I guess, but it got pretty great after a while.

No, but I think Dan Harmon saw this and decided it was good enough to repackage for a pitch.

I think this was from 2005 or 6, so my guess is it was passed around as a joke: "remember that Back to the Future parody where Marty has to lick Doc's balls?" In the meantime Roiland did acting for the Sarah Silverman program and voices for Adventure Time and Gravity Falls, so I'm guessing that had more to do with the connection.

There's one other Channel101 episode with Doc and Mharti as far as I know, and it's them talking about the freedom with respect to location use and trademarked characters, hence the change from Doc and Marty to Rick and Morty. I think it was supposed to be a one joke thing about a crazy "scientist" paedophile and his sidekick (note how Doc and Mharti have different last names) and evolved into a solid heartfelt premise, abandoning the creepy old man thing, which at that point had been done enough by Family Guys and other shows.

This reminds me of how the Simpsons evolved.

This is one case where the remake gets it right.
