Wye Oak also opened for us that night. At least in Portland bus service stops at around 1AM but the venue stays open until closing time, so they were more-or-less the headliners, and to be honest way better than us (the band I was in still exists, just in Portland Maine of all things).

About 2 years ago one of my housemates was playing "Give us the Wind" and I seriously thought it was Current 93 and then it was like "oh yeah I know these guys, we drank beer on the train bridge." By this point I had kind of forgotten about Future Islands, but that song was just stuck in my head. A bike ride to work in the rain becomes a Nordic Adventure. I wonder if others feel that way.. like Sam is wearing a bear skin coat atop a fjord and not just a totally normal guy, like the guy you see at the office lunch room who's microwaving the most delicious smelling food, and you ask him where he got it at and he says he made it at home and you don't see him again for 4 months.

nah that's not my point... you'd get this band more if you heard the rest of this album. They're essentially a 3 piece and if you don't like sweet poppy new wave you won't appreciate it. the interplay between the band and the front man is a really good example of a really fucking good frontman. Also, u guys sux. I like tom jones too, but he's clearly got a lot more influences than that (henry rollins is from the dc area too)

I don't really watch Letterman, but the last time was to catch a friend of mine's band and his reaction was just kind of like "ok.. stay tuned for Late Late Show.." here Letterman's generally enthusiastic and I can see why. He adored Warren Zevon and I notice a lot of Zevon in the presentation, vocally and physically. I went out and bought Singles just now and every song on it is worth it. Until the new Woods or Afghan Whigs album drops, it's my favorite of the year, even more than The War on Drugs or Death Vessel.This is a great song but it's far from my favorite track on the album (Sun in the Morning is kind of perfect.)

Ah yes, we've all been victim to that "new band passion" that others just might not share...

But to be fair, I can see why people are liking this. The frontman's antics and emoting are fun and he seems sincere. Is this a subgenre? If so, what? I can't quite put a finger on it. It's not new wave, that's for sure. It's sort of like an 80's revival act with all the jagged edges sanded off.
