Alestorm is an OK band with a great gimmick, and You Are a Pirate is an OK song with a great theme, but I can't help but feel that something is missing. They need the female singing parts; Robbie had some good songs, but Stephanie is the one who carried the show (musically in particular), and leaving her out of YAAP is like making a cake with no frosting.
Anyway, question: are there any OTHER pirate metal bands besides Alestorm? Alestorm is the only one I've ever heard, but if there are more I'm open to recommendations.

Old_Zircon - 2014-05-05 Pirate Metal has been around since the 80s.
Running Wild are probably a good starting point. They're like the Iron Maiden of pirate metal. In that they sound a lot like Iron Maiden but they sing about piracy.

Old_Zircon - 2014-05-05 Back around '89 or '90 there was a guy up in Maine who was so in to these guys that he ran an ad in the Metal Edge classifieds where you could send him and he'd send you a letter and a Running Wild mixtape because he was trying to build enough popular support to get their albums released in the USA. I might still have mine. It was short, "Diamonds Of the Black Chest," "Prisoners Of Our Time" and maybe one more.

EvilHomer - 2014-05-05 Were Running Wild pirate metal? I thought they were just plain old power metal with one or two pirate songs?
|
EvilHomer - 2014-05-05 Well, alright, one or two pirate *albums*.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-05-06 See, it's not just MLP! You guys know way too much about all the children's shows, which reaffirms my belief that you are a bunch of pedos.

I had several people point me to this in the course of a couple days, all like tee hee look it's metal but about pirates isn't it precious? No. Fuck this shit. I'm drawing a line.
|
EvilHomer - 2014-05-05 They're OK, but they're aggressively mid-tier; unless you're a big fan of power metal and/or are a pirate, you're unlikely to find anything enduring with Alestorm.
I don't know who's been telling you to listen to this song, but it works better as a LazyTown cover than a "metal about pirates" song.
