Great tutorial.

the comments. but that really just highlights how well played this statire was.

is there an second Poe's law? Perfect satire is indistinguishable from real life?

Gmork - 2014-05-09

Sorry, but if this is "indistinguishable", I feel kind of sorry for you. This is hilariously overblown, the onion jumped the shark beautifully on this one.

That IS Poe's Law.

This was good. For a while there I feared for the onion. It all started specifically around September 11th 2001 where they made the decision not to print that week's copy, or the next week's. The Onion was basically our school's newspaper (Badger Herald and Daily Cardinal were there too, but everyone read the Onion as it was based out of Madison then.) A good portion of the student body were New Yorkers and a lot of them lost their parents that day so it was very sensitive. I too had a brother in NYC coming down from Yale for an interview very close to the towers, only to find out later that the interview was moved to the next day.

Three weeks later they returned with an article interviewing the terrorists in Hell and why they were pissed off that they didn't get to go to heaven, get the 40 virgins, etc. and it was the perfect time to laugh again at something that was so incredibly tragic. More recently the Onion's been kind of pussy-footish for me so I don't read or watch it more, but this gives me faith in their unique brand of scathing satire. Great job, Onion.

Wow. Not sure if it was more relevant then or now. Still great.

This is what satire is supposed to be.
Points to the dark hypocrisy and gun patriot sentimentality on a broad scale.

Truly, Jim Haggerty was always more pig than man.

RedRust - 2014-05-09

Oh shoot. I thought this was real, until seeing the Onion logo scrolling.

Hello, well timed 100% wolf urine ad.

Finally!

Something doesn't ring true about this story: How come his parents didn't hear the first shot? How could a kid like this pick up and operate a full size shotgun?

Maybe it was a sawn-off high gauge shotgun that was also silenced and had the stock removed? You'ed have thought they would have mentioned it if it was though.

all good points
