I didn't know they made LEDs that small. This is really cool.

fluffy - 2014-05-25 At one time Sony was working on a direct-view LED (not OLED) TV where each subpixel was a separately-addressable LED. The image and color quality were absolutely amazing, and of course having nanosecond-level latency and perfect contrast without any backlight dimming shenanigans was wonderful.
As Ben himself states in the video, though, the big problem with trying to build a direct-view VR display this way is a lack of focus. You'd have to either directly focus each LED onto a small part of the retina, or just go straight to retinal implants. Neither really appeals to me all that much.

oddeye - 2014-05-25 It doesn't really come across in this video but the guy is a giant and his eyes are like 3ft across.

I'm getting a definite Dr. Clayton Forrester vibe. I wonder if we could inspire him to wear a green lab coat?

Wots wrong with the capacitor that's already there, Ben? Does it need to have a special, engraved invitation?

Would you like to know more?

It's not the same but I made a little Mr. Peanut monocle for old kitty cat's birthdays with an led pointer ( I wore it, not the cat and I held it up to my eye, never inserted it) but I was kind of curious and turned it around.

I am eager for the next logical step: proper optics to induce lasing. Because, hey, lasers from your eyes!

His eye is far too bloodshot to make me think this is safe.
