Out of curiosity I checked out what the random items in my sparse TF2 inventory are worth on steam, and apperently Max's gun that was given away for buying the telltale adventure series is worth .

So people are buying a freebie item for more than the cost of the game that gave it out in the first place.

Also there's a bunch of wierd new shit with killstreak mods and glowie effects and pay-per-play PvE game modes to get more shit.

Hurray for monitization?

fedex - 2014-05-30

I for one am a big fan of the professional killstreak glowy mods

LOOK PAPA!

StanleyPain - 2014-05-30

As a long time player of TF2 I am always greatly entertained by how the shittiest, most useless items are always the most sought after solely because of their rarity. I once managed to sell some stupid thing like Xmas themes glasses or something for close to . It seems like this is largely the case with CS now as well.

A few weeks ago, on a drunken lark while playing a few competative games with my little brother, I bought a key for a case I'd gotten as a drop, and got an obscenely rare skin for the one-shot-kill sniper rifle that every douche on CS uses.

I put it on the marketplace and sold it within a week for 0 actual, real-life dollars.

Three hundred dollars for a video game skin of a gun everyone has.

The Steam account had a twitter attached to it, and that twitter had the single most appropriate photo you could possibly imagine:

Can I borrow 0?

Haha, are they on a boat drinking champagne? Jesus.

Those are Swedish graduation caps, that everyone that graduates from highschool wears around graduation, an equivalent of the cap and gown. And it looks like they are in a common rentable party tent. The only out of ordinary thing for a Swedish highschool graduation party in the photo is that the guy with the cap on backwards has the legend entreprenör on it.

Must you shatter my simple delights

Fuck TF2 and fuck any and all micro-transaction BULLSHIT. I'd never have spent 2500 hours prawning on dust2 if I'd have known that this would be the end result.

Anyway but ESPECIALLY FUCK AND DOUBLE FUCK AGAIN TF2 and ANYONE that enjoys it in ANY POSSIBLE WAY. JUST FUCK IT. TF2 players should have rancid shards of frozen solid mega-turds that I've taken rammed straight up their noses till it ruptures their malformed brains.

AND THEY SHOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR IT.

EvilHomer - 2014-06-01

You remember when microtransactions were first being explored, and everyone was saying how microtransactions would make things cheaper and more convenient for gamers? Like, the base game could be sold for less, and then if you cared about extra stuff, like a high powered gun that worked really well but wasn't strictly necessary, you could buy it for mere pennies?

Now we've got a generation of kids growing up who think .99 for a single costume unlock in a game you paid .99 for is perfectly reasonable.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the day always-on internet DRM allows game developers to re-institute "arcade rules", and every single game is charging us a dollar per life. BUT NO, GUYS, IT'S COOL, BECAUSE THIS GAME IS "FREE"-TO-PLAY!

SolRo - 2014-06-01

ehh, TF2 is already halfway to that last part...their mann vs machine maps only give out its special loot if you pay each time you play.

oddeye - 2014-06-02

I definitely remember the promise of having a AAA game be cheaper at purchase cause you had the option later on of making your spacemarine dress like a clown in the handful of extra multiplayer maps for that extra you would have spent. The idea was choice.

You still have choice. You have the choice to pay full price for half a game, then to pay full price again to unlock shit that's already on the fucking disk.

IT'S ALREADY ON THE FUCKING DISK GOD DAMN IT. I'm paying you twice for shit I already paid you make the first time.

So I play Dwarf Fortress.
