This is very well done and everything, but I still can't get past the blog/social media quality to it. In the past, writers / documentation / whatever would tell a story that involved them. So much of the shit like this is a story about them. Both are vain, but one is so much worse than the other.

Five stars?

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-08

Beautiful coming-of-age story. I'm glad he finally became a true Provider and Giver by selling that bike to his mom. What a Man.

SolRo - 2014-06-08

You're confusing his realization with an end-result.

SolRo - 2014-06-08

You guys need to get a lawn to keep dang kids off of.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-08

I guess I really do. I went over to Youtube to read all the comments mocking this big stupid baby and it turns out everyone loves it and they think it has a delightful, heartwarming ending.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-06-08

Jesus, this little turd is everything I hate about millenials. I can't adequately rate this: I think it 5 star worthy but it didn't end with him in the hospital so _big_ letdown.

Ok so, guy feels sorry for himself because he's selfish, buys himself a motorcycle to make himself feel better, then when said purchase doesn't result in the desired result of feeling better, sells it to his mother and haggles an extra fifty bucks from her. Heartwarming!

Oh and also, he posts it all on youtube as a moral lesson to others about selflessness. What?

I propose a new entry to the DSM : Ira Glass Disorder.

SolRo - 2014-06-08

does youtube show a different video to bitter 35+ year olds?

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-08

Enlighten us SolRo, what was this video about?

AmericanAir - 2014-06-08

IGD is serious, especially when compounded with Wes Anderson Disorder. with the slow introduction of crushing disappointment, recovery is possible.

positive responses to treatment:

cheap ironic beer becomes a utility
rejection of folk songs written about Mary Joe's hair unfurling onto an icebox
not designing clean and smart logos
into the wild sucked dick
sincerity

almost forgot - not using your DSLR to take pictures of homeless people (shallow depth of field).

Here's my version: Man feels inferior to his grandfathers, tries to buy happiness, is vain, ends up making self-centered documentary about giving (even though he sold, not gave) because giving is always good and because his grandfathers gave a lot or something because these few seconds of explanation describing that they had long marriages and big families and that's like giving see.

I swear it's like a huge segment of the population don't want to become anything yet still seek celebrity as a fetishized sense of what it is to be human, have accomplishment, or be worth anything at all. Self-obsession is replacing hobbies - now the hobby is you and what you can learn or acquire (preferably quickly) to impress people with and be remembered for at least in your lifetime as long as it's based only on platitudes.

the modern hipster records all video at f/1.4 so nothing is ever in focus

We all want viral videos. We all want to tell great stories. We all want our moment in the sun. Companies and people.

Yet, we often don't actually have a story tell. We are unwilling to work as hard. We are unwilling to take risks, push ourselves to the edge.

Here's a story that might inspire you to think smart, work hard and tell a better story.

lol

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-06-08

Watching him manipulate his mother through her love for him is really heartwarming and I think an important lesson for his peers to learn.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-06-08

His grandfathers are spinning in their graves.

Just kidding, I bet they're nice and just hoping that he grows up soon.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-06-08

Why do so many young people think the time people they never knew lived in was "better" or "more authentic"? That's like, the hip way to be these days. "Oh, the only good music is music that came out before I was born!"

And no, dipshit, there's no such thing as a "fake reality". Just because you're communicating electronically screen to screen instead of a written piece of paper doesn't change anything other than it's faster and easier.

Kumquatxop - 2014-06-14

GOOD FUCKING GOD.

I bought a shitty 80s motorcycle too, except I also bought some goddamn safety gear and took a class.

Also I decided in lieu of making a movie whinging about not riding a motorcycle, I decided to keep riding a motorcycle.
