To be fair, not knowing how to pronounce Achilles doesn't make you dumb.

Old_Zircon - 2014-06-06

On-the-spot Dice Spin.

Counterpoint: Indiana State University needs some help with it's humanities program. Don't you think?

Disappointing, though. What is with kids these days that they don't learn the basics of Greek mythology? I realize it's not important on a daily basis, but it feels like it ought to be common knowledge.

"Tales of Brave Ulysses" shouldn't leave a person wondering how sirens can sweetly sing, or who this "Ditey" person is and is it racist to call her "Afro-Ditey".

The roommate's god-daughter was over a little while ago, and saw a cartoon in which there was a three-headed dog. She was blown away at the very thought of such a thing. (And I assure you it wasn't "The Venture Bros" so it wasn't that the dog was talking about how good its genitals taste.)

Yeah. I mean, I knew it as "Ache- ee - leez" from an early age because I had a problem with my Achilles tendon.. throughout most of college my professors pronounced names (especially last) differently (Sarte = "Sout", Nietzsche = "Nit shuh" etc.) I took the mythology class but didn't go to a single lecture (still got an A.. haha so sue me Edith Hamilton isn't as much fun at 7AM) but I'm pretty sure the professor pronounced Achilles the same way.

also I find myself (in the myriad times throughout every waking moment of my existence where I find myself in a situation where I'm discussing "Achilles,") I often misspell it "Achielles" beause, you know, that kind of makes sense. Do they even let British people on this show?

Not knowing one thing doesn't make you dumb.

He's probably a smarter person than The World's Fastest Cat.

I didn't know this but I guess Wheel of Fortune is really strict, not even allowing for vernacular pronunciations. A woman lost when she pronounced "Seven Swans a Swimming" "a-swimmin'"

Bhiu - 2014-06-06

If I pronounced it ah - SHEEL would I be wrong? I heard that's how the French pronounce it.

yogarfield - 2018-01-29

To be fair, not knowing how to pronounce Achilles means you're dumb.

TeenerTot - 2014-06-06

Ohhhhh fuuuuuuck. How embarrassing. That poor guy.

He WON?

infinite zest - 2014-06-06

Maybe it was intentional: I remember thinking when I was in college that anything I could conceivably win on these shows I couldn't use: a dinette set for my room share? A tv when I can't afford cable? A car? Didn't know how to drive. And apparently it's nearly impossible to flip them because the studio owns them.. Something like that. This way he gets 15 minutes of fame.. I dunno.

That million dollars would've been nice for paying off student loans tho..

Raggamuffin - 2014-06-06

This man is talented, but not very clutch.

takewithfood - 2014-06-06

So the substitute teacher character from those Key & Peele sketches is a real guy?

Cube - 2014-06-06

Dammit, Jake Sisco!

Bort - 2014-06-06

Another fine graduate of the Keiko O'Brien school.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-06-06

A perfect example of the uncarved block.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-06-06

Now he'll go sulk in his tent like a guy from Chile.

Nominal - 2014-06-06

I thought you only kept your money from a round if you solved the puzzle. Did they change that rule recently? What's the point of solving the puzzle then.

fluffy - 2014-06-06

yeah what the hell's going on here? Maybe it's different for the college tournament?

boner - 2014-06-06

BTW Pat Sajak is on Twitter if you want to know how big a cunt he is.

gmol - 2014-06-06

It's like the antithesis to slumdog millionaire, where you answer every question wrong due a small and unique gap of knowledge.
