casual racism.

the opposite of this video would also get 1 star, don't take it personally

Maru - 2014-06-07

it's not racist; it's satire. you're the white suey park.

That guy - 2014-06-07

They forgot to have satirical insights, though. It's just shit-slinging half of the time. (I'm not calling it racist, by the way)
Someone's campus comedy group tried to make something. How sweet.

Part of why I don't buy it as effective satire: what state and what decade is this all supposed to be happening in?

Also, I promise you Asians have done 1:01-1:07 to me like a dozen times, so that part's not really satirical.

And -1 for Buzzfeed.

That guy - 2014-06-07

...so that part's not really conjectural, I meant to say.

Maru - 2014-06-07

That guy continues to live up to his user name.

Chocolate Jesus - 2014-06-07

What a couple of sniveling 'tards, "an asian guy did a thing to me once, so I'm pretty sure this isn't satire!"

The race war can't start fast enough #CancelColbert

Potrod - 2014-06-07

So Maru and Chocolate Jesus are the same person, right?

Maru - 2014-06-07

we don't agree on everything

That guy - 2014-06-08

But you both agree this piece of shit 'comedy' bit is great.
(setting aside any conversation of really poorly made satire is still satire)

Chocolate Jesus, I corrected what I mean to say like one line later, you dumbfuck. "*IF* Asians said....." doesn't really apply to things they do actually say. I'm not making a sketch about people saying "pizza pie" to me, because there's nothing really interesting to do with it, and it's beneath my concern. It's a dumb thing that friends and acquaintances do to be dumb for fun.

By itself, nothing wrong with someone saying they couldn't eat with chopsticks cause it's too hard for them. That person is uncoordinated, not racist. If you're insulted by someone saying that, fuck you.

"You know you're so unlucky you're white because your people are just naturally fat" is just shit-slinging. It's not satire. Noticing that Asians are maybe naturally skinnier - observation - not racist. Either true or false. How is this said pejoratively?

Nothing wrong with asking someone if they watch Anime and saying you're into Asian culture. If you're tired of hearing this from strangers, friends and acquaintances who are trying to connect with you, fuck you.

Nothing wrong with saying you like Asian accents.

Some white person's saying they find Eastern religions interesting is not satirized by saying Western religions are angry and uptight; just shit-slinging.

Wearing chopsticks in your hair- not insensitive. It's a little fetishy of another culture. Guess who does kinda fetishy stuff about other cultures? The whole goddamn planet. Every culture that interacts with other ones, on every last square inch of the goddamn earth.

"Come on, I bet you're real opinionated, probably a little dumb" = just shit-slinging.

That's about half of the 'jokes' in this. (The other half are apparently exhaustion with Southerners talking to the one Asian in town.) Each of the first half is either a 'fuck you whitey' about something that the other way around is not insulting, or a 'how dare you' about something only an asshole would be sensitive about. Tired of whites saying anything to you at all about anything, even when it's not pejorative AND not meant to be? Fuck you.

If you want to go after how whites talk to Asians in whatever piece-of-shit part of the country this is, stay on target. Don't also lump in shit like "I really like Asian food". It makes you sound like a campusy asshole. At some point being culturally left of left of left of left, you're just way off in the fucking weeds. There's bullshit double-standards out there too.

I get that it sucks for real to have idiots ask you "where are you from really?" when you're from there.

But if someone asks you what your ethnicity is because they want to know about you, and you hear "where are you from, really?", then it's time to go fuck yourself.

Also, I'm not the only poetver who didn't like this shit. 480 views, 12 ratings, half gave it 3 stars or less. It's shit comedy.

Chocolate Jesus - 2014-06-08

So 1.25% of people that saw this video gave it a negative rating? Can't argue with those facts.

Maru - 2014-06-08

the irony here is that i one starred this video the second i saw it.

That guy - 2014-06-08

Choco J-

Flawless logic.
And we know how hard it is to get a bunch of 5-stars around here.

il fiore bel - 2014-06-07

For the troll-y preload.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-06-07

Not particularly clever or well-acted. Helpmefindparents did this and they did it better.

infinite zest - 2014-06-07

I don't think I've ever been on a date where I mention anything physical beyond "I like your tattoos."

3 stars for assuming that there are guys out there who would go on a blind date, find out she's Japanese, and ask if she'd rather get Sushi.

EvilHomer - 2014-06-07

Well, what if you were taking her to McDonalds? I bet she'd rather get sushi then.

Prickly Pete - 2014-06-07

I've never heard any white person say any of these things.

Pillager - 2014-06-07

I have. The south is an utterly mortifying place to live.

Gmork - 2014-06-07

Maybe I would have reacted differently if I was surrounded by people who actually say those things, thank god I'm not.

spikestoyiu - 2014-06-07

I have 100% heard a number of them. I've heard people ask Asian friends of mine "where are you from?" about a thousand times.

spikestoyiu - 2014-06-07

Or -- even better -- "what are you?"

kingarthur - 2014-06-08

Southerner checking in and, yes, all the time.

That guy - 2014-06-08

Well, I'll stand corrected that this shit does get said a lot in 2014 in the South, and not just off in the sticks. I guess I don't know much about the South.

Sketch is still way off target with half of its complaints being complainable.

Chocolate Jesus - 2014-06-08

Apology accepted.

Bort - 2014-06-08

I remember doing this my first day of kindergarten. By nap time I was mortified.

TheOtherCapnS - 2014-06-08

I've lost count of the number of times I've heard a white person go "Look at me! I'm white." and hold their eyes open. Crazy crackers.

spikestoyiu - 2014-06-09

I live in the Northeast. Philadelphia, to be exact. So it's not just the South. I've heard both Asians and half-Asians asked "what are you?" or "where are you from?"

EvilHomer - 2014-06-09

I grew up on a prep school campus in the Northeast. Over one third of the people living in my neighbourhood were Asian. I have never heard a white person say these things, except on TV.

EvilHomer - 2014-06-09

Wait, no, I think I heard the slitty eye thing a few times... back in sixth grade. This redhaired fucking Spaniard I knew used to say that to me when I came home from karate class. You know how Spaniards are.

spikestoyiu - 2014-06-09

The most skin crawling example that I have is only a handful of years old at this point. So it involves twenty/thirty-somethings. I was playing a show in Delaware and my friend, who is half-Japanese, was in attendance. While talking to her in the kitchen of the house we were playing at, some sleazeball approached us, totally interrupted our conversation, and starting hitting on her. Choice lines are "what are you?" as well as "you look so exotic."

fluffy - 2014-06-07

I grew up in a part of the country where the things being satirized were said all the time.

Mother_Puncher - 2014-06-07

Everybody says those things to Italians. If I can see an Italian and not call then Gino or reference a canolli in an insult then I'm unaware they are Italian

kingarthur - 2014-06-08

Italian Southerner checking in and, yes, all the time. Though I've never actually eaten a canolli.

Old_Zircon - 2014-06-08

I grew up just outside a town that was about 30% 1st and 2nd generation Sicilian, and the only people I ever saw using slurs against Italianswere other Italians

Canollis are great, although I don't recall ever seeing a Sicilian eat one and actually can't even think of a place that served them.

Old_Zircon - 2014-06-08

Oh and this video looks awful in the "college improv troupe" way. I don't know if I'm ever going to watch it but I probably will.

That guy - 2014-06-08

OZ-
In Italy, they're racist north to south against themselves.
No exaggeration.
