In Ho Chi Minh City where I'm at now, we have a place called Phu My Hung. Now HCMC is pretty damn filthy - people throw garbage on the street, beggars roam openly and exhaust from motorbikes gets in your face unless you decide to ride a taxi everywhere. However, PMH is the exact opposite. If you didn't know any better, you'd think it was an upscale Southern Californian suburb, in that it's practically deserted save for obscenely rich expats and their families largely hailing from (South) Korea.

It's clean. It's tidy. Well secured and yet so phony at the same time.

Yeah, I've spent time in HCMC too, and I really hated it. It was so fucking hot and I woke up every morning coughing out shit from my lungs from the motorbike exhaust. I stayed with the family of my ex, who lived in an armored compound somewhere in the center of the city. They had razor wire, broken glass shards stuck in concrete, a huge metal door, the whole nine yards... and people still tried to break in now and then.
I really hated it there. The alcohol was cheap, but I was just sick, hot, and miserable most of the time.
