baleen - 2014-06-12 It's on youtube, I watched it a few years ago. It's worth it.
Old_Zircon - 2014-06-12 The novella is pretty decent, I don't remember the actual story arc at all but the concept is good.
infinite zest - 2014-06-13 I only caught one episode but it was pretty bad.
infinite zest - 2014-06-13 And I loved the book. One of my favorite King novels actually.
Oktay - 2014-06-13 Pretty sure it was Alias. I have friends who worked on this, and even back in the day, it was a sore subject. It would either drive them to tears or long rants or both. Apparently it was rushed or something.
Also, the best thing about this movie is Balki channeling Pee Wee.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-06-16 oh, just saw that it's now up on Netflix O_Z. Enjoy!

kingarthur - 2014-06-12 I didn't know how many As went into that and I also wanted people to be able to find it, so....

infinite zest - 2014-06-13 I love it when that tag comes up. Some Profound piece of video art is inevitably Drowned out.

I just like the idea of doing a ten hour loop of him running away, langoliers go underground, he stops, langoliers pop up, he screams and runs away again...

I have no idea why I love this movie so much but it completely sucks me in. I saw it at 3am on SciFi when I was 16 and found the whole thing weirdly fascinating. Every time it's on, I watch it again.
It's a good TV movie at best, but some haze of nostalgia and charm and the fact that it feels like something that should have been on SciFi-era MST3K makes it irresistible.
Plus, while absurd, I loved King's batshit idea of how time works.
Old_Zircon - 2014-06-12 Back in middle school when I was really in to Stephen King I read a forward he wrote for a photo book about gargoyles where he goes on at great length about having almost exactly the same experience with the made for TV movie Gargoyles, so you're kind of bringing things full circle in a way.

The Garth Marenghi theme would be perfect for any Stephen King footage. Do that, Internet.

I saw this as a kid. It's actually not bad. You've got Al from Quantum Leap strutting around dropping loads of exposition about how the universe works, based on pure conjecture which everyone takes as gospel because he's a mystery writer, and therefore a MASTER DETECTIVE.
Meanwhile Balki compulsively shreds paper to keep from going insane and killing people on an airplane. Later, the Pac-Men eat him.
Spoiler: The point of the movie is to piss on all other depictions of time travel by establishing that if you go back in time, it's really boring because THE PAST IS EMPTY. NO ONE IS THERE ANYMORE, THEY ALL WENT TO LIVE IN THE PRESENT.
