Don't kid yourself, you're going to watch this shit.

EvilHomer - 2014-06-15

Of course I will.

joelkazoo - 2014-06-15

As will I.

il fiore bel - 2014-06-15

Yes. Probably.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-06-15

Fuck yeah, I'm gonna watch it.

oddeye - 2014-06-15

Do I have to watch "Dumb and Dumberer" to keep up with the storyline first?

Binro the Heretic - 2014-06-15

Yes.

Yes you do.

M-DEEM - 2014-06-15

If you're around 30 years old, you're obligated.

infinite zest - 2014-06-15

eh.. I'll probably watch it one way or another. I got sucked into Something About Mary the other night and it's still pretty hilarious, and Kingpin is still one of my favorite movies. Dumb and Dumber.. not so much, but it had the right fart : heart ratio to appease the 12-year-old me. Actually, Me Myself and Irene was pretty funny too, but it's been a while. For me anyway, that's four excellent comedies, 3 of which were fairly genre-defining. Then 13 years of shit from the Farrelly brothers..

Anyway I'm going to treat this like the oft-rumored Big Lebowski sequel. It doesn't need to exist, but if it's the original cast and they're having fun, then I'll have fun along with them.

boner - 2014-06-15

All I can remember is Jeff Daniels on the toilet. That's probably enough, though.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-15

Kingpin was great.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-06-15

Boner,

How could you forget the most annoying sound?

Azmo23 - 2014-06-15

i hate you guys
each and every one of you are personally responsible for the downfall of western society

infinite zest - 2014-06-15

I remember my parents not wanting me to see this movie because of my little brother's recently diagnosed Autism. He was about ten so it was just the beginning of the worst years of potential bullying. "Dumb" was the same as "Retard" was the same as "Spazz." So of course I went and saw it with some friends, feeling really guilty, like even worse than taking money from my dad's wallet kind of 13-year-old guilt..

If I recall the trailers made it look almost voyeuristic: "Look at the dumb guys going "derp de derp de derp" farting and getting their tongues stuck to frozen poles, what a couple of retards!" When I saw the movie though, I really didn't see much difference between the Carrey and Daniels characters and most of my older brothers' friends who I looked up to: drinking beer, smoking weed, doing stupid shit that was funny, just having fun and being human with your best friends.

EvilHomer - 2014-06-15

You know, Azmo, Aristophanes wrote plays about farts. Chaucer waxed poetic about asskissing, and don't even get me started on the depraved lowbrow shit Shakespeare was into. This IS Western civilization, it always has been, only popular history likes to forget that fact after a sufficient time has passed.

Mark my words, two centuries from now, the plebs'll be laughing their asses off at Dumb and Dumber XXV, while more urbane observers fret and moan and wish everyone could be civilized like we were in the 21st century.

EvilHomer - 2014-06-15

Of course, *five* centuries from now, when the Idiocracy has set in, the urbane critics might have a point. But by that point, it'll be too late to stop the decline, and everyone will be so stupid that who's going to notice? Who's going to care?

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-15

I thought the "downfall of Western Civilization" were all these fucking superhero movies and Adam Sandler comedies. This film is allright in my book.

Azmo23 - 2014-06-15

the farrelly brothers are basically modern day chaucer or shakespeare. i love that aristophenes play about the retard who gets punched in the nuts, falls in love, and teaches us all an infantile lesson about happiness.
this is exactly on the same level as adam sandler movies

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-16

Azmo, can I invite you to my party? You sound like fun.

Azmo23 - 2014-06-16

i got your e-vite to Adam's Big Big Bang Theory Marathon, but I can't make it! I'm already busy going to evilhomer's Judd Apatow textual analysis conference that weekend!
saarrryy adumb

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-16

:(

infinite zest - 2014-06-16

.....i'll go..... should I make my classic Tofutti chip dip or should I just pitch in on the keg?

infinite zest - 2014-06-16

I pretty much said it above, but D&D (hehe) was a heart felt buddy comedy released when Carrey was best known as the guy who talks out of his butt and Fire Marshall Bill, and Daniels was usually the buddy cop who cut the wrong wire and got blown up or something on the last day before retirement. Pivotal performances in Man on the Moon and Squid and the Whale respectively showcased the men as actual actors bound for Oscar-worthy roles, and not stuck in the Mike Meyers/Adam Sandler purgatory (although Sandler, much like Marlon Wayans with Requiem for a Dream, had his opportunity with the excellent Punch Drunk Love.)

Anyway, it was a dumb funny comedy, not art. Now they're making another one. If Scorcese decided to make a Godfather 4 with Pachino and DeNiro, I could see how purists could get upset. But really, not this.

oddeye - 2014-06-15

"Dumb and Dumber is hilarious" - 11 Year old me.

Old_Zircon - 2014-06-15

When I first heard about this new one a couple weeks ago I thought "wow, they sure waited a long time to make a sequel."

Thanks for reminding me of something I was better off not remembering, dairyqueenlatifah.

Rangoon - 2014-06-15

I can't stop thinking about how... old Daniels looks.

il fiore bel - 2014-06-15

Oh Jesus Christ.

Oh well, I wanted a trailer and I got a trailer.

Didn't think it would be any better than the first movie, but I was hoping for something a little better than this.

Jack Dalton - 2014-06-15

It does not look terrible.

Prickly Pete - 2014-06-15

Going for an R rating seems like a mistake to me. Should've tried to recapture the tone of the original, I think. Either way I'm gonna think it's hilarious, I've already decided.

infinite zest - 2014-06-15

I can't find anything that says it's R.. the grandma pussy gag is pushing it but still falls into PG13 (I think) unless they actually go ahead and show it like they did with Something About Mary.

I took a few of my students to the new X-men the other day (that's the only way I ever get to see new movies) and although it was a good movie I was like "woah this is PG13?" Full butt nudity, at least two "fucks" and a lot of violence.

Hooker - 2014-06-15

I'm going to pretend this doesn't exist.

Riskbreaker - 2014-06-15

I'm gonna watch this, and you know what i'm going to drink? BIG GULPS

ashtar. - 2014-06-15

This mediocre remake of a mediocre thing from my childhood angers me!

infinite zest - 2014-06-15

It's kind of like The Hangover: I'll admit that I saw the first one and I laughed. A lot. Then it's like "two more.. same premise different locale, more shenanigans" as quickly as possible. If the second Hangover came out in 2029, I'd be like "oh yeah.. wonder what happened to those guys."

oddeye - 2014-06-15

Fuck that rapist shit head Mike Tyson and everyone that forgets he's a brutal rapist that should be swashed into a barrel and dissolved in acid and yes I would say that right to his rape-happy face.

Cena_mark - 2014-06-15

Hell, I even liked Dumb and Dumberer. Bring this on.

sosage - 2014-06-15

When did admitting to liking something that is both dumb and funny become such an intolerable crime around here?

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-15

They even had the decency of having one of the better M.I.A. songs in the trailer. What do these people want?

Binro the Heretic - 2014-06-15

And yet, Tim & Eric are lauded as geniuses.

joelkazoo - 2014-06-15

Tim and Eric are not geniuses, they're high-profile trolls who get their jollies off being attention whores. By their own admission, they don't care if you find their antics funny or not, they just care that you're paying attention to them...and goddammit if I didn't do just that, in a movie trailer post as devoid of the supposed irony they claim to espouse as one can get!

...Fuck.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-06-16

Tim & Eric are the Shakespeare and Eric of our time.
