Heh.. I was about to post that link because I didn't see it in the description at first. I was curious because I thought Nestle owned Wonka and was curious about copyright infringement so I looked it up. All you want to know about Mark Sweet and then some.

The Wonka brand has passed hands a lot. It was originaly purchased from Dahl by Quaker Oats, sold to Sunline, then became Nestle. The Dahls also sold rights to candy sold at Blackpool and Alton Towers to Cadbury, which built an incredibly detailed, three part dark ride of the books, starting as a walk-thru attraction, then a boat dark ride, and then into 3-D stalls for a Great Glass Elevator ride.

Oh yeah.. it saddens me to admit this but I had kind of forgotten that it was a book :(

cognitivedissonance: Now, when you say 'boat ride', would it happen to be THAT boat ride? The goddamn terrifying one from the movie?

It's patterned off the one in the book. Same general theory, not exactly the same psychedelic imagery, but some psychedelic imagery nevertheless.

The art in the ride is very clearly taken from Quentin Blake's illustrations, not the earlier, scarier crosshatched ones.

I actually adore the set design. It accurately captures the book illustrations.

It's a shame Imposter Wonka doesn't have a goatee, otherwise he'd be the most accurate to the book of the Wonkas.
