You can't fool Patricia, she knows it's all worthless.

My grandma had a mid-80s gold Renault convertible but she got too old to drive it. After she passed away my parents sold it and I was in college so I didn't know. I loved that car so much :(

cognitivedissonance - 2014-06-16

There's multiple dozen Showcase Showdown sketches on Youtube. Theyget increasingly bizarre.

RedRust - 2014-06-16

Did they even have rights to play that theme?

Bort - 2014-06-16

Well they got Peri to play the contestant, so I suppose yes.

Two shows based on exactly the same public domain character are similar? Heavens to mergatroid!

Also, I'd say Sherlock might have a leg to stand on if it made more than one and a half episodes a year.

Well at least the US pilot is being written by one of the writers for Star Trek: Voyager, so we know it's gonna be good.

infinite zest - 2014-06-16

I wonder.. are the rules different if you're taking a theme from National Public Broadcasting? I can't remember the show, but I'm sure I've heard other PBS themes used.. not to mention SNL's "Mr Robinson's Neighborhood" (it's not 100% the same but the "would you be mine (x2) won't you be my neighbor" is used verbatim.

Either that, or chalk it up to the two people in the US who watched Dr. Who in the 80s, two people who probably weren't watching The Price is Right

cognitivedissonance - 2014-06-16

One of which was working for Bob Barker.

fluffy - 2014-06-16

The SNL case is covered under parody which is ostensibly protected as fair use.

PBS does not own any rights to Doctor Who; they (or more specifically individual member stations) only licensed the ability to rebroadcast. The BBC owns it all.
