I's like a whole 'nother planet.

Wait... so if you're a dude in Texas who wants to get out of paying child support, can you just claim to be gay?

EvilHomer - 2014-06-25

This is one of those awesome loopholes which, like Don't Ask Don't Tell, the social justice activists are going to ruin for everyone.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-06-25

I came to the page just to post that comment. Gentleman! Texas is calling you, come out of your closets and defeat your ex wives forever!

EvilHomer - 2014-06-25

Eagerly awaiting the MRA response.

Quad9Damage - 2014-06-25

Let them secede. Please, for fuck's sake. Texas is a cancer of the progression, and the sooner this malignant tumor is severed the sooner we can prevent it from spreading.

craptacular - 2014-06-26

nah, texas just needs to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into a liberal progressive utopian paradise

memedumpster - 2014-06-25

There is no reason to live in Texas, ever. If you like dumb rednecks, every other dumb redneck state is superior, move to one. If you like deserts, every other desert state is superior, move to one.

I can half-assed understand why we play dictators against each other geopolitically. I can half-ass understand why government ruins capitalism. I can half-ass understand why people should be allowed to own whatever gun they want whenever they want for whatever reason they want.

I do not get why Texas is allowed to stay in this country. So many rich third world countries could replace that star and automatically have a better class of American. Somalia, I'm looking at you, buddy, yeehaw yourse'f on over hyar and get yer star!

B. Weed - 2014-06-25

"I do not get why Texas is allowed to stay in this country."

Three little letters: O-I-L.

Quad9Damage - 2014-06-25

It would be interesting to see Texas secede and then have America go to war with it over its oil.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-06-25

I actually have an ambition to live in Austin some day. If Texas ever secedes from the union, I hope Austin secedes from Texas.

chumbucket - 2014-06-25

Unfortunately I'm betting when that happens Texas will just turn Austin into a long term incarceration gulag a la Escape From New York when they find out they can't possibly afford to kill enough prisoners through capital punishment.

Azmo23 - 2014-06-25

first off, young turks ugh

this same issue would affect a heterosexual couple using gestational surrogacy in Texas

in states that arent surrogacy friendly (most of them), there's no proof of genetic relation required for the chosen father's name on the birth certificate and the mothers name is selected based on whose body the baby is birthed from (rather than whose egg it started as)

also, there are no laws against same sex adoption in Texas.

So, I'm not sure if the couple being homosexual is possibly just being focused on to sensationalize a story about surrogacy rights and criteria for the "mother" section on birth certificates to almost always be restricted to the person who carried the infant to term.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-06-25

There is no way a judge would go out of his way to deny the father in a straight couple who used the man's sperm to create a child to be on the birth certificate. This is a blatant attempt to attack gay parenting rights.

Azmo23 - 2014-06-25

no, but they would (and have done in the past) deny the straight woman from being on the certificate as "mother" whose egg was implanted into a surrogate who carried the zygote to term
that seems like a more accurate analogy, as the birth cert in this story does have the sperm donating male listed as father, just not the non-sperm donating other half of the couple also as father

im not saying texans arent bigoted homophobes, just saying this is a surrogacy rights issue legally that is being presented as a gay rights issue for additional pageclicks (in my opinion)

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-06-25

I'm not discounting what you are saying but I think singling out gay men as not being recognized as BIOLOGICAL parents and invalidating their genetic part in creating a child is not something which has occurred with straight men in this country. Or anywhere that I know of.
