THIS MOVIE FRANCHISE JUST GOT 20% COOLER!

EvilHomer - 2014-07-02

Doubling the box office take in ten seconds flat!

SolRo - 2014-07-01

that's some great miming right there, it's like the gun is a slippery fish.

Kabbage - 2014-07-02

Honestly that was the part that blew me away the most. The stuffed pony and the gun are both just slapped in there with Microsoft Webcam Effects, jerking about as he mimes holding something.

INDUSTRIAL LIGHT AND MAGIC

Old_Zircon - 2014-07-02

That' how it looks to me whenever actors are interacting with CGI, to be honest.

Sanest Man Alive - 2014-07-02

All my stars for that balloon animal/whoopee cushion transforming sound effect. I really hope that noise is actually in the movie, and sounds off every fucking time some soldier turns his weapon into a pissbucket or jerkrag or deck of cards, and vice-versa. Even for these terrible films, I never expected nanomachines, or whatever this shit is, to sound so patently stupid.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-07-02

The CGI isn't the worst of this. From what I've read, Bay concocted something called "Transformium," a metal that makes anything into a transformer.

Bay is just trolling now, seeing how much he can get away with before everyone finally gets the joke. I mean, the fucker is producing Uwe Boll level garbage but with a bigger budget, here.

Hooker - 2014-07-01

Christ, reaction shot guy is that guy Norm was forced to talk to on that YouTube comedy show thing, isn't he?

Xenocide - 2014-07-01

I wonder how many huffy neckbeards walked out of the theater during this scene.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-07-02

if by walked you mean wheeled

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-07-01

There's also a Transformers reference in Equestria Girls, not that you proles would know anything about that.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-02

Kabbage - 2014-07-02

"According to Aaron Archer at the BotCon 2008 Hasbro Commentary viewing of the live-action Transformers film, the My Little Pony prop carried by the little girl had to come from the personal collection of a Hasbro employee, as that particular style of figure ceased production prior to the beginning of the movie's filming. She never got it back, as it was later auctioned for charity, and whether she was ever able to replace it is uncertain."

Old_Zircon - 2014-07-02

I used to have two roommates who had worked at Hasbro and one of them was good friends with one of the toy designers. We had all sorts of weird, unreleased and hybrid ponies and action figures in the living room that designers had made for fun in their down time and then tossed out.

Harveyjames - 2014-07-02

I really hate this

themilkshark - 2014-07-02

My Little Ponies are the new cool hip thing that you just gotta have

infinite zest - 2014-07-02

You really don't have to pay 13 dollars. Go as a group to a weekday matinee and just stick some cardboard in the emergency exit. Pay the guy back with weed or beer or whatever. Trust me, the one guy working the projection, selling tickets and concessions won't notice or care.

infinite zest - 2014-07-02

or go to a later show the day after the "no passes" gets removed, say that you work at a sister theatre and they should've passed you in in advance. Not on the list? Make sure to do this when there's a line because they won't call, and if they do, chances are there's a line at the theatre you said they worked at. Eventually they're just like "go ahead."

Hooker - 2014-07-02

Or do what everyone else does and don't go to the theatre.

SolRo - 2014-07-02

that's a lot of effort to see a movie you don't want to see.

infinite zest - 2014-07-02

I want to see it. I hate the "so bad it's good" logic, but it looks like this falls into that same category as The Happening or the first Twilight. I also give Bay credit for knowing exactly what he's doing. It's like if Schumacher's batman was a little more campy and enjoyable like the old series and they decided to run with it instead of the serious reboot much to the chagrin of the darker Burton/Miller visions.

It looks dumb, loud and unapologetic, and little scenes like this one make me want to see it even more.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-02

Just when I thought Michael Bay couldn't possibly be any dumber, he goes and does something like this... AND TOTALLY REDEEMS HIMSELF!

I might go watch this movie now. Does that make me a bad person?

EvilHomer - 2014-07-02

I am a bit disappointed in the way they did her henshin sequence. Instead of a cool analogue pony-to-rifle transformation, she just melts into a cloud of nanotubes? The buck is up with that?!

infinite zest - 2014-07-02

I think it was something that was explained in the first movie, like the actual transformers still change but the big military buffs are using that technology combined with nanocubes.. Something like that. There's a pretty funny scene in the first one where cell phones and other appliances "transform" in a similar way, wreaking havoc in a house. It's straight out of Gremlins but still funny.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-02

I've seen all (three?) of the movies, and I can't remember fuck-all about any of them. There was a scene where Megan Fox bent herself over a car, or a motorcycle, or something, and I think John Turturro blew up the Pyramids at one point, but that's it, that's all I can remember.

Don't the other robots do full analogue transformations, though? I could have sworn Optimus Prime and Starscream went all BLAAH I'M CHANGING *bloopbloopbloopBLOOPbwoop* and didn't just explode into a cloud of poorly CGI'd baleen-tech; at the very least, I'm sure I'd remember being pissed about it if they didn't transform properly.

Or maybe they don't transform at all? Wasn't every other Transform except for Bumblebee only in the movies for, like, thirty seconds?

SolRo - 2014-07-02

I think the only transformation was bumblebee, optimus and the helicopter guy in his first appearance in the first movie.

the rest is robot jumping, getting blended mid-air, and continuing on as a vehicle.

infinite zest - 2014-07-03

To be fair that in-air transformation was used quite a bit in the cartoon, unless they were just trying to kill a lot of time in an episode or introduce a new robot

memedumpster - 2014-07-02

Seven : The number of slow motion explosions with people outrunning them in this movie. Research done by a friend with more patience than I have.

infinite zest - 2014-07-03

That might be a record. You're denying cinematic history?!? How dare you sir!

Meerkat - 2014-07-02

Wait a minute ... was that really in the movie? I haven't seen it. I thought this was something some goof photoshopped in for lulz.

I'm lookin' at you, "Fluffy". If that's your real name.

mouser - 2014-07-03

Apparently so

«Was there a scene in the movie that you think may have made Hasbro executives weep loudly and openly?

Probably when some KSA scientist used the Transformium to make a giant My Little Pony figure and then turn it into an assault rifle.»

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-07-02

13 dollars? Where do you live, San Francisco?

I went and saw this movie in Imax 3D on Friday night and my ticket was .

EvilHomer - 2014-07-02

A non-Imax ticket for Transformers 4 costs where I'm at.

Kabbage - 2014-07-02

IMAX around Boston costs , regular movies are

SolRo - 2014-07-02

in san diego it's for regular, ish for special audio regular or plain 3d, and .50 for imax 3D.

and fandango has upped their "convenience fee" to now.

so .50 for one adult if you're lazy and want imax 3d.

infinite zest - 2014-07-03

There's a single screen theatre by my house that shows all movies at 5 dollars and they've had a pretty good track record for new films recently (xmen, train your dragon) but no transformers. I asked my kids if they wanted to see Transformers yesterday (at one of the 10 dollar theatres) and nope. So we went swimming. Smart kids.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-07-02

You don't need to see it. Just read this handy FAQ:

http://io9.com/transformers-age-of-extinction-the-spoiler-faq- 1598579492

joelkazoo - 2014-07-02

Thanks.

Will watch the Rifftrax of this, tho.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-07-03

Anything is watchable with Rifftrax. It's the only way I'll watch the Star Wars Prequels, and if I ever subject myself to Twilight, Rifftrax will be my shield.
