What is it popular for, anyway?

Sounding like the planetarium:

This was the awkward age of synths - when manufacturers thought the endgame was to make them sound like other instruments, but they mostly ended up squarely in uncanny valley for that purpose.

This thing (the whole Wavestation family, I mean) is great though, every voice essentially has a simple mod tracker built into it, for one thing.

StanleyPain - 2014-07-01

This is the SR, not the actual full Wavestation. The SR was basically just a collection of Wavestation presents with basic MIDI functionality. It could be programmed like a Wavestation, but it was insanely hard with the tiny screen and lack of clear user interface. It was mostly used as a basic sampler/sequencer with the "best of" sounds collected over the years.

presents = presets

Old_Zircon - 2014-07-02

Nope, the SR was actually more powerful than the keyboards and the A.D (except for the lack of audio inputs), they just slapped the worst possible interface on it to make it smaller. But under the hood it's actually an upgrade (again, other than the lack of audio inputs).

Editing really is a pain without a computer, though.

Old_Zircon - 2014-07-02

The perfect Wavestation would be the interface and connectivity of the A/D but with the SR's CPU and firmware.

Old_Zircon - 2014-07-02

The interface really does suck.
