Sorry, Clive, but every time I see you now, in my head I hear you saying "I'm Garth Marenghi, author, visionary, dream weaver...plus actor."

You're just like Stephen King. That is to say, your short stories are excellent. Many of your novels are passable, but your movies fluctuate between cartoonish and boring.

You need to find your own Frank Darabont to translate your stories to film.

Your post seems to imply that MAximum Overdrive is anything les than a masterpiece.

I had a teacher who was a DP on one of his films and based on his stories the comparison is completely accurate.

The comparison to Marenghi, not SK.

nice

"Maximum Overdrive" was a fun movie, but you can't tell me it didn't swing back and forth between cartoonish and boring.

Love this movie: hate Scott Bakula. Why, Clive Barker, WHY?!?! Every other part is cast perfectly. Was this the studio's idea?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-07-10

Scott Bakula is the only thing in this to really love.

I have not read his books. Are they at all non shitty? I've heard Abarat is good but...

His short stories are pretty entertaining. They take themselves VERY, VERY seriously but they're still fun.

The most interesting thing he's published is "Clive Barker: Illustrator."

His drawings are pretty great in a kind of 80s-gay-british-goth way (frankly, that's the way anything he's done that's good is good).

If you liked the movie Company Of Wolves you might like his short stories.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-07-10

Scott Bakula is an amazing, talented actor. You just need to expand your mind to see why.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-07-10

Every time the movie really started to take off here comes "TV's own, Scott Bakula". Mugging for the camera. Delivering flat lines. Showing us his pecs. Reminding us of Quantum Leap. Fucking QUANTUM LEAP. Come on, man. Have you lost the will to live?

If I controlled the universe, the role would have been filled by Peter Weller. Of course.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-07-09

He's not a bad author, really. I went on a Hellraiser binge a few months ago, and they seemingly hold up. Sometimes he gets drunk on Twitter and flirts with everybody, myself included.

I really miss the vests made out of drapery samples that people used to wear in the 90s.
