Watching someone else play a video game?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-07-13

Yes thats exactly what this is. Its not like its every level at the same time with cool music or anything.
Its not like watching multiple views of something side by side can let you think about it in a new interesting way.
BY THE WAY I WAS BEING SARCASTIC!

The YT description kind of explains what this is, but for the lazy, I was trying to figure out how to splice up a complete playthrough of all of the levels in SMB2 so you can see them at once. There's 20 levels total of course so I synched all of them at the exact same frame at the beginning. I thought about going further back to the title cards but each title happened to be a different length and I would have had to do a lot more frame by frame editing, and Camtasia (what I did this in) was really slowing down with 20 concurrent videos.

Each character gets used exactly 5 times each. And, all potions/powerup mushrooms are found.

I want to do this for the other Mario games - and I am open to ideas on how to do them. It'd also be nice to synch up other games as well.

Also, I don't normally self-promote all of my videos, but this one was a special case. I did this initially for someone else's channel. They gave me no guidelines really on what to make, and I thought this would be interesting. After spending about 2-3 hours splicing this together and sending it to him, he waits a day and says "nobody will watch this" and doesn't upload it. So I uploaded it to my own channel and promoted it a bit just to prove that people out there would be willing to watch it. Or at least that there's _some_ interest out there (which is better than none as he was claiming).

Your mistake was playing as Mario.

Nobody chooses Mario.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2014-07-14

Well he's useful in some levels believe it or not.

poorwill - 2014-07-16

I do not believe it.

poorwill - 2014-07-13

I really like SMB2. Very unfairly maligned game.

FABIO - 2014-07-14

I'm not ashamed to call it my favorite Mario game.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-07-14

You two should be ashamed.

Nikon - 2014-07-14

It's my favorite game in the Mario series.

Xenocide - 2014-07-13

Stars for the music. Extra stars for Mouser, because when I was a tiny child I explained to my grandmother that Mouser is, "A cool mouse who is bigger than a man and he throws bombs until everyone else dies." This is the only thing my grandparents ever knew about the Mario franchise.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-07-14

The worst mario game. Taking all the good things from doki doki panic, reskinning them, and marketing it as a new game. And the "IT WAS JUST A DREAM, THAT'S WHY IT DOESN'T AFFECT ANYTHING IN THE OTHER GAMES" ending is bullshit. Oh, so I busted my ass off to finish this dumb game and it was mario tripping on some bad mushrooms the whole time.

fluffy - 2014-07-14

It always bugged me when some of the SMB2 SubCon enemies showed up in later games for those reasons.

Nikon - 2014-07-14

Wart laughed evilly during the ending and the SubCon enemies have appeared in other games. Maybe it wasn't just a dream.

Xenocide - 2014-07-15

You're wrong forever, this game is wonderful.

Anyway, a clever entry in the (otherwise terrible) official Mario comics of the early 90's was a story where Mario and friends kept falling asleep, landing in World 1 of this game, and promptly getting killed by something, at which point they would wake up. It turned out that this is what happens to them every single night; Subcon is just where everyone in the Marioverse goes when they fall asleep.

So really, by defeating Wart, they freed themselves from an endless cycle of nightly life-destroying nightmares.

Nikon - 2014-07-16

Was that the one where ShyGuys kept stomping him into the ground while enjoying cups of cinnamon coffee?

fluffy - 2014-07-14

Stars are for Estradasphere. I am ignoring the other shitty music.

Also what's with the weird path taken in 1-1?

HarrietTubmanPI - 2014-07-14

It's showing off every part of the level, including the possible shortcut to birdo. Why? Because I already had a recorded version of myself playing through the whole game getting everything so why redo it. The thing about the SMB2 levels is that although they are linear they still have different routes you can take and different shortcuts. I also realize I made a mistake with 4-3 but oh well - this was experimental anyways.
