There's a "Tumblr fandom"?

BHWW - 2014-07-14

Not so much Tumblr fandom as it is fandoms who connect on Tumblr, as well as those who've attached themselves to it, and the silly idea that Tumblr exclusively belongs to "fandom" only.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-14

I never really understood the appeal of Tumblr. It's a decent enough platform for multimedia blogging, I guess, but I've always found the layout to be a nightmare, and doing anything more than just aimlessly browsing random images to be more of a headache than it's worth. The quality of the discourse there is also pretty bad - in my experience, mostly just an endless, lonely echo chamber of "reblogs" and "likes". It know it's meant to be a shortform blogging tool, so I don't really expect Tumblr to be as engaging as LiveJournal or a "proper" online community like SA, but still. It's like Twitter with fewer words and more porn.

I've been thinking of getting a Tumblr account for artwork and stuff; does anyone here use it? Is it worth trying out, and if so, why?

StanleyPain - 2014-07-14

I used to use it as a personal blog type thing, but I got tired of them basically continually tweaking the platform so it was no longer useful for anything than sharing fucking instagrams and other people's twitters and stupid shit like that. Blogger seems to be, unfortunately, the best option for anyone who just wants a basic personal presence type place.

Evil, I have a Tumblr account I use for reblogging artwork. It's a good website to use if you have any artists you follow online. I don't recommend looking into the political side of Tumblr, because like you said it's an echo chamber with mind numbingly irritating people on every spectrum. I don't around with the interface too much but I do use an add on called X-kit that has some other add-ons to make it a little easier to use the website.

Remember Livejournal? Remember the insane fandom groups on LJ, LJ_DRAMA, fandom wank, etc?

Well they all migrated to Tumblr, and now there's a whole new generation of them.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-07-14

Ah, that's what that was. I figured "Dash" was for "Rainbow Dash" and not "Dashboard."

Learn something useless every day, I suppose.

EvilHomer - 2014-07-14

I thought that at first, too.

I was very disappointed. :(

Syd Midnight - 2014-07-15

Some of them are worse than bronies. They had an entire workshop devoted to "alpha beta omega" (google it), a fandom in which their favorite male actors have giant dog dicks and get other male actors ass-pregnant.

oddeye - 2014-07-15

How is that any worse than Bronies?

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-07-14

The pictures of the ball pit are almost artistic in their sadness.

oddeye - 2014-07-15

It's like something you stumble across in Kosovo and are initially elated because at least children can have SOMETHING in this hell. Then spend 5 minutes crying because you remember that all the kids are dead.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-07-18

That ball pit can't be more than a foot and a half deep, at most.
