Well... Upotte was an anime that had 'cute girl' guns, and (sigh)...they did climax from 'being shot' and they fantasized about 'being shot'.



You know, I've said anime fans make anime hard to defend, but the industry itself does a fine job of making itself weird and creepy.

Oh, the submarines are all girls in school swimsuits awkwardly holding or in awkward positions around large torpedoes.

Damn, they have some pretty obscure ships on there. Even some of the submarines that only had numerical designations instead of names. This is going to lead to a bizarre situation where the only people who have heard of some of these vessels are hardcore history buffs and anime perverts.

nah, there was already an anime just last year that used WW2 era Japanese battleship and submarine names.

Others probably have too, I just cant remember any more.

And recently there have been a bunch of very specific topic edutainment-ish anime.

guns, trains, bread baking, agriculture, fermentation, cars, tanks, warplanes, obscure Japanese culture/history, etc.

Oh God yes, you can MARRY your ships! And each girlship has their own personalised waifu dialogue! You can even buy a couple's futon, but it requires you to fully level up your ship and complete some optional side quests.

Oh, nevermind. It's a "free"-to-play game, so getting a marriage license for one ship costs you seven real-life dollars. I have *some* standards; I'm not spending seven dollars to fake-marry a ship on a browser-based card game MMO, even if she is the Bismarck.

When Japan starts World War III, I'm going to feel really bad about having liked Girls und Panzer & Strike Witches.

I had to look those shows up, from the Wikipedia description of Girls und Panzer, " It depicts a competition between girls' high schools practicing tank warfare as a sport." Also the show had military history advisers on its staff, because something this absurd needs to be totally accurate with its tanks.

I'm beginning to wonder if historical accuracy of military vehicles lets them claim these wank-fantasies are somehow "educational" and get a pass on other stuff.

I don't think they can copyright the basic premise. These are all IJN ships; nothing would stop you from starting your own series based on the US Navy! Our aircraft carriers would have to be cowgirls instead of kyudo masters, but otherwise I think it could work.
