Gmork - 2014-08-07

that's fucking retarded

EvilHomer - 2014-08-07

I was all set to agree with you, but then that mechashark came out.

Who's the torpedo kanmusu? She's my favorite so far.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-08-07

If this doesn't have a crossover with Strike Witches, I'm going to be very disappointed.

EvilHomer - 2014-08-07

Do doujinshi and fanfics count?

EvilHomer - 2014-08-07

It's already an online collectible cardgame and PnP RPG. The Wikipedia article is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kantai_Collection

"the physical characteristics, appearances and personalities of each of the girls correlate in some way to the real-life vessel (for example, ships with a larger displacement tonnage are often depicted with larger breasts, with the notable exception of a few aircraft carriers)"

SolRo - 2014-08-07

Damage is displayed by their clothes getting ripped

/facepalm

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-08-07

Like either of those is at all a surprise.

I'm amazed the submarine doesn't sexually climax to represent emptying her ballast tanks... as far as I know.

wtf japan - 2014-08-07

Tomiko the Spank Engine

SolRo - 2014-08-07

Well... Upotte was an anime that had 'cute girl' guns, and (sigh)...they did climax from 'being shot' and they fantasized about 'being shot'.

You know, I've said anime fans make anime hard to defend, but the industry itself does a fine job of making itself weird and creepy.

SolRo - 2014-08-07

Oh, the submarines are all girls in school swimsuits awkwardly holding or in awkward positions around large torpedoes.

/facepalm

if you dare;

Vaidency - 2014-08-07

Damn, they have some pretty obscure ships on there. Even some of the submarines that only had numerical designations instead of names. This is going to lead to a bizarre situation where the only people who have heard of some of these vessels are hardcore history buffs and anime perverts.

SolRo - 2014-08-07

nah, there was already an anime just last year that used WW2 era Japanese battleship and submarine names.

Others probably have too, I just cant remember any more.

SolRo - 2014-08-07

And recently there have been a bunch of very specific topic edutainment-ish anime.

guns, trains, bread baking, agriculture, fermentation, cars, tanks, warplanes, obscure Japanese culture/history, etc.

EvilHomer - 2014-08-08

Oh God yes, you can MARRY your ships! And each girlship has their own personalised waifu dialogue! You can even buy a couple's futon, but it requires you to fully level up your ship and complete some optional side quests.

http://kancolle.wikia.com/wiki/Marriage

Be sure to read the comments.

Personally, I would marry the Bismarck.

EvilHomer - 2014-08-08

Oh, nevermind. It's a "free"-to-play game, so getting a marriage license for one ship costs you seven real-life dollars. I have *some* standards; I'm not spending seven dollars to fake-marry a ship on a browser-based card game MMO, even if she is the Bismarck.

Sudan no1 - 2014-08-07

I like that the aliens look like whales, good job making fun of yourself Japan.

I look forward to the day the US's nationalists do stupid but harmless shit like this.

Lef - 2014-08-07

Give them time, they already have enough weapons grade plutonium to assemble several hydrogen bombs, and Shinzō Abe is eager to ramp up their army.

They love their WWII imagery.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-08-07

When Japan starts World War III, I'm going to feel really bad about having liked Girls und Panzer & Strike Witches.

Cena_mark - 2014-08-07

I had to look those shows up, from the Wikipedia description of Girls und Panzer, " It depicts a competition between girls' high schools practicing tank warfare as a sport." Also the show had military history advisers on its staff, because something this absurd needs to be totally accurate with its tanks.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-08-08

I'm beginning to wonder if historical accuracy of military vehicles lets them claim these wank-fantasies are somehow "educational" and get a pass on other stuff.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-08-08

I learned a bunch of stuff about tanks from GuP, so you might not be too far off.

BHWW - 2014-08-07

"Scientists labor to find out what the hell is the deal with Japan."

Vaidency - 2014-08-07

I've had ideas this stupid before, but I've never tried to monetize them. Joke's on me, I guess.

EvilHomer - 2014-08-08

I don't think they can copyright the basic premise. These are all IJN ships; nothing would stop you from starting your own series based on the US Navy! Our aircraft carriers would have to be cowgirls instead of kyudo masters, but otherwise I think it could work.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-08-08

They haven't made an anime dating game about the Space Race yet. If you act fast, you can get in on the ground floor.

memedumpster - 2014-08-08

There is something about that little too sharp, little too bright color palette that when you see it you know it's going to be this kind of anime.
