I'm torn here.... this is awful and also awful. Five stars and also only one star.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-08

I fucking love this. I only wish this video was an hour long.

EvilHomer - 2014-08-09

They need better voice actors. The people who are doing this sound like they're one piercing away from being BotDF fans themselves.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2014-08-09

I'm gonna agree with Homer here.

I'm all for theatrics.. I love Nightwish and got to see a very early AFI like a billion years ago at a long defunct venue; my friend told me to go because I liked Samhain and Danzig fronted Misfits and it was awesome. I saw them quickly turn into more of a boyband, because, well it's profitable. I self-identified as emo because I liked Rites of Spring and SDRE and Rainer Maria, not.. I dunno whatever emo's become. I'd turn out running into the band Fall Out Boy everywhere in Milwaukee, and we'd have these conversations about punk. They know what they're doing and know their shit about punk, but it's hard to feel bad for the actual punk that's still busking on the steps of the Oriental Theatre like a young Gordon Gano when you're selling out stadiums and being screamed at by 13 year old girls with Dead Kennedys shirts. Name ONE fucking DK song, I doubledare ya. Anyway, I just got rid of my beef with success. Didn't hurt that they threw kickass parties in their mansion and invited like the entire neighborhood. Catered and everything.

So I understand, with regards to my other post, why those people I lived with hated this band like people like me would hate Fall Out Boy. We're pissing on your genre, even though we can still play SDRE if we want to.. I dunno. As long as they're making people happy, especially people who feel like outsiders. But I'd love it if their next song was called "Listen To Bauhaus And Current 93 Instead Of Us.."

memedumpster - 2014-08-09

Holiday in Cambodia.

I get it though, people who think music can change the world for the better get pissed when music that doesn't try becomes very popular. By the time they're old and realize that bands like DK, though awesome, did nothing to change anything for anything, they'll lighten up and enjoy music for music, or stop listening altogether. With any luck, when they take the "must change world" equation out of the music, they'll realize a lot of what they liked sucked (KMFDM) and rode the "we're changing the world" horse straight to the bank.

Brought to you by the Hopeless Council : "Have fun, don't worry about it!"(tm)

infinite zest - 2014-08-09

Haha I meant the 13 year old girl at the FOB show naming 3 DK songs, not y'all's..

infinite zest - 2014-08-09

(Total side note but my ex used to work right above the long goodbye, unfortunately now a snazzy restaurant.)

EvilHomer - 2014-08-09

Do people lump Fall Out Boy in with BotDF? Fall Out Boy's actually not too bad; they've got a knack for songwriting and some really inventive lyrics, even if their image is a bit... you know. I used to hate them back in the day, too, but to be honest I'd never actually listened to any of their stuff until my best friend started dating an emo chick. I couldn't cotton to Yellowcard, but turned out Fall Out Boy was OK!

Are they actually Simpsons fans?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-09

I have no idea why that isn't exactly what's called for.

They're all B list youtubers of the high school gamer variety , and they're all kind of annoying when they're doing their own material even the smarter ones, always mugging like the precocious kid in a 90s Mentos commercial. There's a kid who appears on similar videos on the same channel who has made maybe three dozen videos about Anita Hussein Sarkeesian. But he's also done some anti-homophobia videos. These are smart kids who, because they're kids, don't know shit.

I can't remember what this kid Nate did that led me to subscribe to his channel, a long time ago, but apparently he's done some things I like. And I like the chick Gianna, not because she's smarter than the others, but because she's not expected to act like such an asshole.

@EH I'm just referring to the backlash from people who hate their success. They're entirely different genres, just a "let's make a boyband" version of their respective ones. FOB are very talented musicians. These guys probably are too, but it's not as easy for me to gauge that because I don't listen to enough of the genres they're picking from. But like AFI or BotDF, they had a choice to make. Fuck, I'd have to think long and hard about that decision if I was still in my old punk band: "Do I keep my day job and continue to play shows at fun and rowdy places or do I make lots of money and never have to worry about another beer bottle flying at my face?" Now I play in more orchestral bands.. think banjo, keyboard, handclapping, kitchen sink type stuff.. when that becomes big it becomes Mumford and Sons, which is the most hated band in the world, or at least in Portland, by people WHO DRESS EXACTLY LIKE AND PLAY EXACTLY LIKE MUMFORD AND SONS!

Anyway I was covering e3 down in LA 14 years ago for an online paper and one of the perks of a Sega sponsorship is a backstage pass to the concert. Since Crazy Taxi had just come out on Dreamcast, Bad Religion was there (Ten in 2010 was used, and I think another song) so I had to interview them and had the opportunity to watch the show. So I asked them about Crazy Taxi and if they liked video games and then asked them what it was like to be such an influential punk rock band wedged between Fenix TX and Blink 182, relatively new to the mainstream. They said it was an honor and I was thinking "no fucking way.. how much is Sega paying you for this.." The first band I skipped but you better fucking believe I watched the fuck out of Bad Religion and it was one of the coolest things I ever saw, band-wise, and I was really not that into Bad Religion that much. Then Blink 182 came on stage and all the girls came back.. I couldn't hear out of one ear for a week because of this girl. But they couldn't play their own songs. They were just cute boys with tattoos. Cute boys with tattoos who wrote some fucking amazing songs, but still. Bands with talent will always be bands with talent.

infinite zest - 2014-08-09

("online paper") I still call it that. It's the "chargeplate" of the old millennials.

infinite zest - 2014-08-09

Oh yeah.. the simpsons thing.. Yeah FOB used to play in Madison, WI all the time, and there was another band called "I Voted for Kodos." I think they shared the same bill once. It was kind of a thing for punk and ska bands to name themselves after a Simpsons reference, at least in the early 2000s in the midwest. There were lots more but I can't remember.

Sanest Man Alive - 2014-08-10

I think the reason people take exception to Blood on the Dance Floor (and to an equal extent their fans) is because their music, while not really terrible, isn't so great as to make up for Davey Vanity's rape charges.

OxygenThief - 2014-08-10

The moon above is shining bright
Come on, girl, the time is right

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-09

We can't all be SEXXAY AS FUCK like you, Misterbuns.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-08-09

I love how all the people making these comments look just as you'd expect.

memedumpster - 2014-08-09

To actually comment on the video...

Less Than Three Heart may have just replaced Deer Stuck in Fence as my indian name (yes that was my indian name, appalachia is weird, okay).

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-10

I always refer back to the anti-disco movement of my youth, how absurdly serious we were about it. There's a certain age when the music you like is an essential part of the identity you're creating for yourself. When I was 17, I was crazy into Alice Cooper. Even then I knew that a song about Dead babies are kind of horrible and stupid, but I forgave it because I liked the band. I maintain that the music was better, but I wonder how that might look to someone my age now.

lotsmoreorcs - 2014-08-10

flash: none of us give a fuck about people your age

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-10

Answers to questions that no one asked.

"lotsmoreorcs" I think we've talked before, and you were a giant douche, but I don'tt remember anything else about it.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2014-08-10

Your second sentence rings true. I knew that I'd changed when I purchased a used CD copy of Tori Amos's "Little Earthquakes."
