Hey, Robbie Coltrane as whoeverthefuckhewassupposedtobe was pretty fun!

I kind of miss this kind of Bond. I remember seeing Goldeneye and my friend hated it because there was NO WAY he could speed up to that plane at the beginning. No fucking shit, dude!

I didn't see the newest one but Casino Royale's "realness" or "gritty" factor, whatever you want to call it, do little to separate it from other action movies. I liked it, but it didn't feel like Bond. I'm sure the new TMNT is horrible, but at least they're still turtles. Taking away Bond's cool gadgets is like painting martial artists green and replacing their pizza with whatever turtles eat. Lunchables and capri sun or something.

When everyone was dogpiling on Die Another Day, I was pretty much one of the few people saying "Watch...in 8-10 years you're going to miss Bond movies where the main villain lives in an ice palace and fights with a cyber-armor suit that shoots lightning." I loved the Brosnan-era, personally.

What's great is how Bronson and Dalton have had such great post-Bond careers, playing a wide variety of characters (if you haven't seen Married Life, Brosnan is AMAZING in it) even if they're often considered the worse of the Bonds. Daniel Craig's a wonderful actor (I discovered him because of Munich) but I really don't see him doing such a wide variety of characters in movies (good and bad) as the rest of the Bonds after his Bond time is up. Sorry Mr. Craig.. don't punch me in the face! It's all I've got!

I'm never ashamed to admit that this was my favorite Bond movie, even if every Brosnan movie after this were some of the worst. The action scenes were great (tank chase!) without being eye rolling ridiculous or drawn out and tedious (every opening chase scene to the new Craig movies). One of my favorite villains: a Bond doppelganger with a believable motive, taken out by an end fight sequence that pioneered the "knife fight in a phone booth" choreography of two trained killers trying to get the better of each other that the Borne Identity movies would later continue.

I just can't get into the new Craig movies. Fuck all that emotionally vulnerable noise. They try to mimic the emotion of the Borne movies and are failing HORRIBLY.

Honestly though, the climax of your bond movie is a poker game (texas hold'em tournament in a super high end European casino?) that can't even get the basics of poker right? Bond says you don't play the cards, you play the man, but gets nothing but great hands and the one time he doesn't play his cards he loses. It made the card game in Maverick look like Rounders.

Personally I don't miss the era when Bond films came off like self-insert spy fanfiction. By the last three Brosnan movies, 007 had become so one dimensional in his generic perfection that he wasn't a character anymore; he was a catchphrase-spouting plot device. His victories had become so inevitable and effortless that they were boring.

Casino Royale and Skyfall were great because Bond actually had to put some effort into his job again. That, and it's rare to see a long-running franchise actually step away from making the same goddamn movie over and over.

Shoulda killed 006 when he had the chance.. I think there was a way in the Chemical Plant level but I can't remember how to do it.

Goldeneye is fucking blast. One of the great bond films in my mind and always will be. The first two Bronson ones are A-grade, people.

Merzbau - 2014-08-14

And now you have me imagining a world where Charles Bronson was cast as Bond instead of Roger Moore

I saw this movie in a cinema in Fiji when I was 12 or something. It's the best bond with the best villain and a plot that somewhat makes sense.

In addition it has a psycho-sexual scorching hot killer. Can think of worse ways to die.

I could have watched a whole movie about those Russians, with the last half just being the one survivor trying to escape the installation as more and more ridiculously horrible things happened. Wouldn't even have to be a Bond movie.

Also, this movie has one of my favorite Bond theme songs.

Riskbreaker - 2014-08-14

This is my favorite Brosnan Bond movie, everything else after this was downhill. Craig's Casino is one of my all time favorite movies, but i wasn't that big of a fan of Skyfall. Quantum is just meh...

DavidBowiesLuckyTennisBall - 2014-08-14

This is my second favourite Bond film after Casino Royale (2006), and it is mostly due, not to the quality of the film, but a certain N64 game.
