is this shoegaze?

The Mothership - 2014-08-13

Absolutely it is.

I like Titus Andronicus but this is pretty bad, but I liked the Bukowski at the beginning. Here's a good song. A good song is "Upon Viewing Bruegel's Landscape With the Fall of Icarus." That's more their style. I saw them at a little divey place a billion years ago and thought "these guys are gonna be big." They deserve their success, in my opinion more than some other "pitchfork approved" fare.

That painting has been my workstation wallpaper for some time now.

I listened to the song and read the lyrics. Frankly, they seem not to understand the painting. But we do have Auden, as so

"About suffering they were never wrong,
The old Masters: how well they understood
Its human position: how it takes place

In Breughel's Icarus, for instance: how everything turns away
Quite leisurely from the disaster; the ploughman may
Have heard the splash, the forsaken cry,
But for him it was not an important failure; the sun shone
As it had to on the white legs disappearing into the green
Water, and the expensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
Had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on. "

Stars are for orcs.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-08-14

Perhaps that is why it is here...

I'm willing to bet "lead vocalist" was not high on this fellow's aptitude tests in high school. Props to him for trying it anyway, but a few months of vocal lessons would have gone a long way.

The Mothership - 2014-08-13

Is the lead singer functionally tone deaf, or is their sound man just shit? Also these guys are like what Catherine Wheel would sound like if they teleported from the 90s to Brooklyn at the present day.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-08-14

I like this band but holy shit that was bad.

infinite zest - 2014-08-14

I'm not sure how much time they have to work it out. I think it's on here but you can see a bunch of my friends in the Portland Cello Project and Low's Alan Sparhawk covering Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized." It's weird for me because I know, and have played with, everybody in the band except for Sparhawk, who is in a lot of ways is my idol. I hope you don't read this, those who know who you are, you cellists, if you read this site.. I love you and will see you soon but that wasn't exactly what Muir had in mind... Sorry? Buy ya a drink or something if you read this. Just be like "hey you're the bassoon punk kid!"

Binro the Heretic - 2014-08-14

Painful.

Painful, painful, painful.

Gmork - 2014-08-14

Thought this was going to be from the Hopkins film.

Oh boy was I wrong.
