That last flashing on screen message.

I love the switch of lettering in the beginning: "Oh wait nonono we DON'T want to get rid of sign language!!!" It's the only Mega64 video I'll ever submit but this cause means a lot to me. I was reading an article that made me reevaluate my own rendition of the challenge:

http://www.vice.com/read/the-worst-part-of-the-ice-bucket-chal lenge-is-the-people-criticizing-it-822

Wildfires have been rampant in Oregon and Washington this summer so I thought there could be a more creative way, as so many celebrities have done. "donating without dumping buckets of water on our heads disconnects us from a cause. It’s about being a part of something." says the journalist. It's a sobering article.

same

counterpoint; Vice is almost always a bunch of hipsters doing shit "journalism" and giving eachother sloppy blowjobs for it.

ALS is just one out of hundreds of horrible diseases that get no coverage, most don't even have a terrible fundraising corporation to make money off of them.

And this shit is the same "look at me, im helping!" self-centered activism that we usually hate.

I'm with SolRo on this one.

I mentioned it before, but I matched my monthly donation to the Human Rights Campaign, which isn't much but it's what I can do. Thing is, it's a novel approach vs... I dunno, getting a few dozen emails and maybe a bumper sticker and a newsletter from the director's spambot account reminding you that what you're doing is making a difference. "Eat Six Saltine Crackers In A Minute For AIDS Research." "Find A Goat And Record Yourself Flipping it Off for Cancer." I could go on. You're right, there's the saying "charity's something you do when other people are looking" and "I'm looking at a bunch of people dumping ice on their heads but I don't know anyone with Lou Gehrigs Disease so why should I care about the disease in the first place?"

It's because I do care. Not about ALS specifically. It was years ago but I used to work for the Fund for the Public Interest and we'd get transferred around to different PIRGS: I'd be talking about saving Wisconsin and Minnesota's lakes and all of a sudden have to be talking about a place I'd never been to and how we need their support. I'd get the "what's your favorite lake in Pennsylvania" and I'd sort of freeze up.. "uhh.. all of them?" The screen goes blank and now I'm in Colorado talking about.. I dunno. Whatever it is you crazy potsmokers do.

I could make this a lot longer, and I'm not saying you should agree with me either but raising awareness about anything through a very simple video will change the world a lot faster than any former techniques.

my 'same' was to Bobonne

Bobonne - 2014-08-25

You didn't watch the video, did you?

Bobonne - 2014-08-25

Note: the above was aimed at Solro's first comment up there.

Gmork - 2014-08-25

It's for ASL awareness.
