I hate these special editions where they go out of their way to explain EVERYTHING to the audience.

oh wow, this is really easy to get for surprisingly cheap on eBay.

Oh this is real? I mentioned before but I had all the Star Wars laserdiscs on DVD from some dude. So I think I've seen them all, including the out takes from Sesame Street, but I don't think I've seen this.

Yeah, search eBay for "star wars super-8." This black-and-white silent version seems to go for . There's also a much rarer color-and-sound version that goes for 0+.

I always wanted to see the actual homemade Star Wars but I guess they just show it at museums and such.

I'm following my policy of Star Wars auto-ones forever, just in case I haven't made enough enemies around here lately.
Star Wars fucking sucks.

I liked the first one. My mom went into labor in the theatre in 1977 with my older brother so they named after Obi Wan Kenobi. That was pretty much all I knew and didn't see any of them until the re-releases in the theatres in the late 90s. By then I was kinda like "meh.." I could've been watching Farscape or Lexx instead. But Star Wars did a lot to make universes like that possible, and I can only imagine what it was like when it first came out. The story's simple as pie and I think Lucas has admitted that it was just Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress in space, but it's a fun ride and I'm actually excited for the new ones. Maybe Dipper from Gravity Falls will show up. You never know with The Mouse these days.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2014-09-01

Wait, zesty, they named him after Alec Guinness or they named him Obi Wan Keboni?

infinite zest - 2014-09-01

They named him Ben. Sup bro, I know you're not on this site but if you were I'd wish you a happy labor day. He and his friends were all into star wars so I was sort of the tagalong that didn't get it, as I was conceived around when Jedi came out. So I got more into "cooler" shit like Gobots and Robotech. One year my parents tried to emulate Darth Vader's breathing in the basement with a humidifier and it worked. Scared the shit out of the older kids. :)

WOW this takes me back! had an 8mm projector during the 70s. A few of the abbreviated silent movies I collected turned up years later on MST3K

The Undead
First Spaceship to Venus
Earth vs. the Spider
Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster
Frankenstein (1931)
The Pharmacist (WC Fields)
Frankenstein's Cat (Mighty Mouse)
The Horrible Tooth (Little Rascals)

This must have come out before EMPIRE since whoever wrote the subtitles was not aware that "the true story of Luke's father's death" wasn't true at all. In fact, when I watch it silent like this, for the first time I can tell that ObiWan is lying.

I've always liked Star Wars, just not as much as some people. The dialogue seems almost deliberately bad. What does Leia call Han in EMPIRE? "Laser Brain"? That's pretty close to the level of "Take that, Space Bitch!", from SPACE MUTINY.

I used to think of Star Wars as the movie that ruined movies, but fuck it. I'm fine with this. It took 30 years for the technology and the storytelling to finally come together, but Marvel Studios is making some terrific superhero movies, Christopher Nolan's Batman series had its brilliant moments, and I've decided I no longer care about all the dark serious auteur movies they nearly stopped making after this. (The other movie that changed movies was probably "Heaven's Gate") I fucking LOVED the Avengers. I fucking LOVED the Winter Soldier.

It says volumes about the world we live in how Star Wars combined myth and merchandising without it ever seeming to be forced. The merchandizing has simply never ended. I bought a Darth Vder sports bottle just a few days ago. I think people buy Star Wars merchandise to continue experiencing the myth. Boxxy is a huge fan of Star Wars, though she hates the prequels and was born nine years after return of the Jedi was released. She's appeared on youtube wearing God knows how many items of star wars clothing, including maybe a dozen tshirts, and a dress in the shape of R2D2. She was also born five years after the death of Joseph Campbell, who was also a huge fan.

The myth and metaphor of star wars fascinates me, I have a few T shirts myself, but I can go 15 to 20 years between viewings. The relentless action seems a little drawn out to me.

Dude, is EVERYTHING about Boxxy with you?
