I will be one to say that I do enjoy a good portion of their songs, especially the ones that focus on harmonies. But, their last two videos that popped up on here deserved to be on here.

Their on-stage outfits seem to be toned down a lot, too, but that Daft Punk video, especially, handled their outfits like they were mechanical sparkledogs.

I agree, much of what these folks put out isn't that great. But they try hard; they're entertainers at heart, and that counts for something. Also this song is really good, the more I watch it it keeps getting better.

Also: baritone lead singer
Also: contra-alto male second (bassist dude with red mustache)
Also: transgendered baritone female backup (lady dude with accordion).
Name another band with that vocal lineup.

I'm associated with a band with a male vocalist with an 8-octave range and an F2M french horn player so I'm used to it. Our last show got pretty bad reviews, but frankly I don't think people were ready for it. 12 years ago when I first saw some little band called Arcade Fire opening for Swords Project at the Blackbird, I would've said the same thing. If they keep making songs like this one, well it's sort of like the Tin Man got the heart by accident. I really like it, and I'm pretty picky :)

The "Roland" logo kinda ruins the illusion tho..

kingarthur - 2014-09-02

This is awful. The shtick is awful, the song is technical prowess with no heart and the lyrics are shit.

It's rare that i outright hate a concept, but this is ticking the boxes for me.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-09-02

I dunno. After years of musicians that appear in street clothes that look crappier than mine and just stand around, seeing someone in a costume is a nice change of pace.

Granted, they need a better act to go with it, or it's just an affectation. Maybe some confetti cannons or pyro?

Yeah. If I heard this song on Pandora or something I'd probably just like it. Not necessarily what I'd normally listen to. To me it sounds like The Killers and the National had a kid. But if I found out that the kid in question was a robot I'd be very intrigued.

hahahahahaha I just realized I was replying to steampoweredkleenex.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-09-02

This is actually really bad

misterbuns - 2014-09-04

awful

Chancho - 2014-09-03

Talented individuals but...I dunno...gimmicky and Sting-like edge-less songs. Supposed to be robots but their songs are more sponge than metal.

The Mothership - 2014-09-03

that's a good way of putting it.

The New Meat - 2014-09-03

I hate steampunk with an irrational, all-consuming hate.

misterbuns - 2014-09-04

I don't hate steampunk, but it is very stupid and it's not hard to rationalize.

it's the first american style that never ever had any politics to begin with and just came from affluent complacency.

dowstroyer666 - 2014-09-04

I cant imagine a more radio friendly bland song. Oh, but they've got edge and dress up like steam robots or w.e the fuck that is....nah.

Father Avalanche - 2014-09-17

how is standing still and moving awkwardly tenets of being good showmen? this... this is just like eating white bread.
