He is apparently too decent a person to be a good late show host

love - 2007-02-27

huh. compassion.

happy_ending - 2007-02-27

Marvelous.

Billy Buttsex - 2007-02-28

I love this guy now

Ahriman the Creepy Lurker - 2007-02-28

Brilliantly handled.

EvilHomer - 2007-02-28

5 stars for a Scotsman talking about drinking, minus one for killing my schadenfreude. Bastard!

Herr Matthias - 2007-02-28

It gets really quiet towards the end. Well played.

timmylean - 2007-02-28

Ha. Ha. Urine.

dr tits - 2009-04-23

the urine bit was priceless...
other parts were hard to sit through.

davinciclone - 2007-02-28

This man is a class act. We need more Scottish TV hosts in the US.

Leuuis - 2007-02-28

exceeded my expectations

kingarthur - 2007-02-28

Amen

ScrubbingBubbles - 2007-03-01

Wow. Go Craig!

Random_Hajile - 2007-03-01

Craig Ferguson... Bulbed!

Daughters of Uzbek - 2007-03-01

O wad some Power the giftie gie us, To see oursels as ithers see us.

Alex - 2007-03-01

entertaining and insightful

Twitch - 2007-03-01

Well that was well said. Maybe it's time to find a tv some nights.

Camonk - 2007-03-01

Late night talk show hosts aren't supposed to be compassionate and classy. What gives, Craig?

Old_Zircon - 2007-03-02

Wow. Are things starting to slowly, slowly change?

athodyd - 2007-03-03

hit's nowt a chooooke!

Caminante - 2007-03-03

This should make you feel bad for laughing at Britney Spears jokes.

HummanaHummanaHummana - 2007-03-06

Speechless.

fluffy - 2007-03-08

The only thing that bothers me is the audience missing the point and laughing at non-jokes early on.

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-08

But he wasn't taken aback, he rolled with it. He knows people are expecting jokes.

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-08

In fact that was one of the great things about this, he never got preachy. It was never, "How DARE you people--", it was always about his own behavior. Way to be, says I.

Mayberry Pancakes - 2007-03-18

Wow. That's a class act.

helicopter cats - 2007-04-12

Anna Nichole Christ

KnifeGhost - 2007-06-11

Somebody give him Oprah's job.

Namor - 2007-06-21

Decency; that's refreshing.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2007-07-01

Please let this man be on American television for as long as he wants. We need all the class we can get.

RomancingTrain - 2007-07-01

+5 for drunk vicar
And all the smart, important stuff he said.

baleen - 2007-07-22

I have a lot of respect for this guy now. I was never really into him before. Pretty brave monologue for network.

Xenocide - 2007-08-15

After he got this job, people began wondering why Craig deserved his own show. This is why.

simon666 - 2007-09-20

wow we are very highly evolved moralists here. -1 because it hurt my arm to pat my own back.

IrishWhiskey - 2010-04-21

Are you Craig Ferguson? Because its not our own back we're patting. Complimenting another person's wit and compassion is not the same as self-promotion.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2007-08-26

This is what the comedy of the future looks like folks. We, are fucking, doomed.

People don't even know the difference between a joke and a dead-serious statement.

This is what Howard Beale looks like eighty years from now.

Long Gone Daddy - 2007-11-24

SCotsmen are all decent folk.

TheSurgeon - 2007-12-02

This may be a little late, but I just got around to signing in to this part of the site, and...yeah, incredible. Brung a tear to me eye, it did.

keinsignal - 2008-01-15

just, wow.

JimL2 - 2008-02-15

This really is very good. I can't believe I waited a year to watch it.

Long Gone Daddy - 2008-03-13

The thing that strikes me about Ferguson isn't his decency - that's well and good, but outshined by his incredible ability to speak extemporaneously in a charming and fluid manner EVERY. NIGHT. He ad libs these monologues - there aren't any cue cards. He just kind of plans out what he wants to say.

Lauritz Melchior - 2008-04-07

It's so refreshing to see people simply being human beings.

badideasinaction - 2008-05-06

Five-starred late, but it can never be said enough - this monologue is brilliant.

mobius - 2008-07-01

This man has balls, and a big heart. Thank you, Mr. Ferguson.

And Then Explosions - 2008-12-07

Five-starring late.

And an extra laugh because I read that as "balls as big as his heart" and thought it was an apt description.

Cleaner82 - 2008-09-08

I wish I could say I wanted more talking heads to be this honest and genuine, but I imagine most talking heads are honestly, genuinely pricks. Not this guy though, this guy RULES. Million stars on top of the five I gave it earlier.

Thersites1960 - 2009-02-20

What's remarkable about this is that the whole show doesn't grind to a halt.

joelkazoo - 2009-02-23

Said what needed to be said, and did so eloquently (or as eloquently as a frickin' Scot can!)

Species - 2009-04-13

i love this man.

Lies, lies, LIES! - 2009-04-26

How the fuck have I not favorited this yet?

goat - 2010-09-22

I have never found Craig Ferguson funny before, but not only was this entire speech really moving he actually managed to slip in a good joke or two. Maybe this could be his niche: the Fundamentally Decent Talk Show, with Occasional Humor.

RockBolt - 2010-10-18

I recently listened to the audiobook version of Craig's book "American on Purpose," narrated by himself. Its just as classy and well spoken, with humor in the right spots, as this for 7 hours, highly recommended
