It's like the EA marketing people have never, ever seen what happens with "viral" user-generated marketing campaigns.

Or maybe they know exactly what it's about, because between this and the glitch videos I'd have had no reason to pay attention to Madden whatsoever.

And yet you're not going to buy it. Neither am I. I've known of the existence of Madden games for years and I've never once been tempted to buy them. The only discussion about them I've had other than this one was with a coworker who's roomie was pissed off that on the version he was playing at the time, you couldn't alter the color of the shoes.

I'm as brand-aware and brand-friendly to Madden as I am to Yugo cars, and just about as likely to seek one out.

About the only football video game I MIGHT buy would be Blood Bowl, and that's quite a stretch.

Given some of the backgrounds on the GIF creator I'm pretty sure this is exactly what they were going for. They're capitalizing on gamers' schadenfreude to raise brand awareness. Classic marketing.

Woah! Nice scrabble word! I guess you're right. I used that Doritos thing last year where you could suggest a new flavor, and.. well they were smart enough to take out the words that people like me would use. It was actually smart enough to recognize that my Pringles flavored Dortios idea was invalid.

I don't know of anyone who's interested in Madden who wasn't already playing Madden. I don't even know if there's even another AAA-level video game football simulator out there. If this results in higher sales or anything that's more significant than the marketing equivalent of a bug splat on a windscreen, I'd be amazed.

Whoever came up with it is no doubt spinning the site traffic into a nice bonus, though. More numbers is always better, right?
