I never played Night Trap (the original or censored version) but it wasn't necessarily "violent" like Phantasmagoria (or even MK, funny as that seems now,) was it? It just seemed kind of pulpy. They carry her away kicking and screaming. Nothing about kidnap or murder is funny, but it didn't seem that extreme to me, even back when it came out and there was a fuss about it.

infinite zest - 2014-09-10 I should've watched the whole video first. Mr. Jonathan Sakura answered my question. But now I have a question for Mr. Sakura, if that is your real name.

blue vein steel - 2014-09-10 yeah, i remember in middle school in the mid 90s and having a copy of a "mature" gaming mag, Extreme Gaming or something like that, that had an ad for one of those FMV "Porn" PC games, which was seen by a teacher, confiscated and reported to my parents.

infinite zest - 2014-09-10 Funny thing is, if I remember correctly, the lack of blood in the SNES version of MK1 almost sealed Nintendo's fate in the console wars. I was always a PC gamer kid because my dad would bring home the old office computers and I'd tinker with them. Plus the games were a lot cheaper. I think I got I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream for like 3 bucks in 1996 or so. If it ran like shit I'd just mess around some more, go back and bother Egghead computers for more ram the way some people like to dumpster dive. So that's always my kid gaming experience. Guess I never thought about it that way. No wonder I'm so messed up. My friends fixed stuff by blowing on it or in some cases putting cartridges on top of cartridges.

I took a class from the sound mixer who worked on Night Trap, so I'm pretty cool, you guys.

While "Night Trap" wasn't all that great a game, I think it got an undeservedly bad rep.
The point of the game was to PREVENT acts of violence against women, a fact universally ignored by all the hand-wringing parents who worried video games were going to corrupt their poor innocent little children.

infinite zest - 2014-09-10 I think I remember Tomb Raider being lumped in there too. If Laura dies it's because I wasn't doing it right, not because I wanted to see a large breasted woman fall to her doom or look up her skirt. But if it was Mario no big deal. Their attempts actually pushed back the womens' rights movement in an era that needed it the most.

I lived in Albuquerque when it came out, and I had a friend with a Sega CD and Night Trap.
It wasn't very good.

Dana Plato is rolling in her grave. A news report about Night Trap and not one mention of her name.

200 games, and the trade-in value STILL wasn't enough to cover even a preorder for the next Tomb Raider.
