That guy - 2014-09-20
I assume at some point this person ceases with the caveats, sidebars, subordinate clauses, disclaimers, parentheticals, and precluding rebuttals just long enough to make a few preferatory remarks.

That guy - 2014-09-20 But I couldn't make it that far.

"chick's a dude" tag?

|
SolRo - 2014-09-20 I didn't realize it till I read through the comments.
Doesn't help that he calls himself Alice.

urbanelf - 2014-09-20 I guess I meant my comment as "he's not a convincing transgender person."
|
urbanelf - 2014-09-20 Oh, the channel description says...
"Hi I'm Alice and no I'm not a girl (#bonerkiller). "
|
That guy - 2014-09-20 I had to see that for myself. ***** for that hashtag

Binro the Heretic - 2014-09-20
The guy who sent the emails sounds like the sort of person who drives around with a tarp full of chopped-up hookers in his trunk. I wonder if the people who went ballistic over Zoe Quinn will attack this guy with the same zeal. He is, after all, compromising the high standards of video game journalism.
Also, for a while, I thought she was wearing a wool cap...but she was not.
|
SolRo - 2014-09-20 well, he's trans or gay...so this is going to be special.
don't worry about the dick pic guy, MRAs are already in comments downplaying it, because Quinn is so much worse?
|
Bobonne - 2014-09-20 No, he's a dude that says he's a dude because he's a dude.
Don't make such weird assumptions just because dude has what's usually a chick name.
|
|
Hooker - 2014-09-20 Yes, you're right, Binro. That guy that acted grossly inappropriate deserves to have his reputation in the industry tarnished. ...wait, what's your point here?
Two stars because this is like five e-mails spread out over 20 minutes of some girl (guy?) rambling in the most boring way imaginable.
|
Binro the Heretic - 2014-09-21 The guy who sent the emails needs to answer for a blatant (albeit ham-handed) attempt at quid-pro-quo.
And yes, the video is rambling and boring, but still pretty evil, hence my 3-star rating.
And that hair is awful. Really awful.

I'd like to say this guy will get fired, but if he was brazen enough to do this, he probably already knows he won't. Most people who work in the industry are decent people who just want to do their job and get along, but there's always a handful of dudes (maybe there's some asshole women too, but I've only ever seen dudes get away with shit) who get away with being horrible while everyone else just tries to politely ignore them.

infinite zest - 2014-09-20 Yeah. But he's got some serious fucking leverage if she releases the name of the guy and the company, if he's not fired. In the age of Tinder and OKC, dickpicks are pretty common. I'm always shocked when I go on a Tinder date and she shows me some of the pictures or messages in her in-box. But that's a dating website. Personally I think it's sexual harassment no matter what, but there's professional and personal and this crosses the line.
Let's say he did like him, who he probably thought was "her." This isn't quite a professional relationship like hiring someone just because he or she is attractive and firing them after they mention they have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Like let's say someone wanted to review my book in advance (not that I'm working on one) and I was really into her. Maybe she was really into me too. She likes my writing and you never know unless you try, right? You hear about authors and musicians getting involved with their critics in a romantic way all the time. But usually that's over a cup of coffee or a beer or something. If I made the implication that I really liked her and she was like "no sorry" I'd back off. And if I didn't give her the advance copy for review because of it, I'd be an asshole. But if I then sent her a dickpick, assuming I had her email, that's one step away from rape in my book.
That being said, you're right. If it's brogrammers (that's a new word to me) it could be a case of "he said s/he said," that maybe he got the wrong impression. But then, Alice has the name of the company, and you better believe people will start boycotting their games. For an independent developer, that's suicide.
|
fluffy - 2014-09-21 "Brogrammers" are a blight on the entire tech industry and are a big part of why I want nothing to do with startups or startup culture anymore.

exy - 2014-09-21 An an indication that programming skills no longer mark anyone out as a specially skilled snowflake.

Could someone do a tl;dw about what this video is about, ideally with people stated by name or a reasonable pronoun that doesn't involve the apparently hard-to-discern gender of the individuals in question?
