A lot of people really don't understand exactly how much ground this movie broke. There are so many taboos that are broken in this movie. Janet Leigh's black undies, references to masturbation, transvestism, voyeurism, Victor Buono, this was the first REAL post-Hayes code movie. The best part is that Hitchcock was actively playing from William Castle's playbook. It's identical to when Stanley Kubrick asked Ken Russell for set decoration advice for "Barry Lyndon". It's old hat shtick now, and the turn around corpse gag has been replicated in so many movies since, but this was terrifying shit at the period.

It still is awesome IMO because it is a good plot with some right good acting and has some genuine suspense.

Don't watch this submission if you don't know the ending to the movie btw.

If you don't know the ending to Psycho and you're over the age of 21 you are pretty much an illiterate hobo.

Also showed a toilet on screen which was never done in Hollywood films.

The main character dies in the first third of the film! They got Janet Leigh just to make it more shocking. Anthony Perkins was a teen idol and they cast him as a psychotic killer.

Joseph Stefano is an excellent screenwriter. The book by Robert Bloch is written in the first-person from Norman Bates point-of-view and pure pulp. Stefano made Norman Bates a sympathetic character.

There are so many great things about this movie.

It sucks because famous old movies like this and Citizen Kane are spoiled for people long before they're old enough to watch it.

Victor Buono?

(I have heard that it's the first film to have the sound of a toilet flushing in it.)

To me, it's like Star Wars. Even if you have never seen one second of Star Wars, you probably know who Luke's father was. In either case it's not a spoiler as much as "ooh what's surrounding this." I'll admit, though, that the first Psycho I saw was Gus Van Sant's remake.

I didn't mean to include Victor Buono. I was thinking of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?"

i was expecting the mother turn to cut to a skeleton playing trumpet

That would have ended the scene on an interesting note.
