1) He should tell this to the Japanese. I'm sure they'll be happy to know that horrible city-destroying floods never happen anymore.

2) I really hate it when people say things like 'the Earth is a lot more resilient than you think'. Yes, the earth is resilient as fuck; but people -- and more importantly, the ecosystems those people exist in and rely on -- aren't. Disrupt them, and shit goes south *real* quick.

My favorite bit along that line was Rush denying climate change by likening it to thinking that if enough people jumped up and down, the Earth would change orbit.

God is the kind of guy who makes up loopholes to get out of his promises and deals. In this case he'll claim he wasn't talking to Japan. Or New Orleans. He forgot to put rainbows in those places.

I've heard global warming deniers ask, "well what makes the 'old' climate the best one anyway?" How about: it's the climate that we relied upon when building our society; all our cities, roads, and infrastructure depend upon reliable environmental conditions. Change those conditions and cities can no longer support their populations.

... and I've got an example. Back in the winter, my sister was driving through the Carolinas, where there were massive road blockages because of the snow and fallen pines. Thing is, neither the roads nor the pines were meant to deal with snow; the roads were not built with any side areas that snow could be plowed into, and the pines had so much surface area that they'd collect enough snow to snap. Climate change means, in this case, that your roads become impassable.

Additionally, the locals don't know how to drive in snow; my sister had to edjumacate a young fella on how to get a truck out of the snow.

Sanest Man Alive - 2014-09-22

Should the Carolinas even have so many damn pines to begin with? As a teacher once put it to me, one of the more subtle ways logging companies fuck up the environment is by replanting deciduous forests they mow down with pine trees, because they grow back faster.

So we know that every man, woman, child, and land animal, except the occupants of the incestmobile, was murdered by god, but which fish population was genocided, the freshwater or the saltwater fish?

SolRo - 2014-09-22

maybe both? enough fresh water to flood all the land masses might make ocean water too dilute for ocean fish but still too saline for fresh water fish.

But there are species that can survive in both without trouble. Which is why the oceans are now predominantly tilapia.

News to them...

Pretty sure I could become a great person by doing the exact opposite of anything this asshole says.

The God of Biscuits - 2014-09-22

"I'm not going to destroy the Earth in a flood, but I'm not going to stop you morons from doing it to yourselves, either."

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-09-22

Sure, but did he say anything about starving us to death from droughts? No, he did not.
