This is probably totally bogus. This girl has a history of doing goofy shit in an attempt to go "viral" and get her own reality show because that's the world we live in now.

fluffy - 2014-09-23

I'm not sure how "totally bogus" applies as a pejorative in the context of dressing up as a fictional character.

spikestoyiu - 2014-09-23

The story is that she had a plastic surgeon insert a third breast in order to become "unattractive to men". Which is impossible.

fluffy - 2014-09-23

Oh, I thought this was just a cosplay video showing off cosplay, and not the other bullshit that she was claiming it to be. Clearly I'm not paying enough attention to the Internet these days (probably a good thing).

One of the more memorable Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy references in that movie.

(The other major one was wrapping a towel around your head to not be seen.)

You know when I first watched 'Metropolis' I was quite stoned (also there was no audio on my computer so we just played Deltron 3030 as it was a silent movie anyway) At the time I got the impression that total recall was a remake of (or heavily inspired by) Metropolis.. There are a few common themes like the class warfare, and a few scenes seem quite close between the two films, for instance they both have scenes with skeletons in catacombs and they both have scenes where the actions of ruling elite endanger the masses (in total recall its when they turn off the air, in metropolis its when they flood the undercity)
Anyway I was probably just stoned (deltron did seem to match up with metropolis really well also) but maybe theres the makes of total recall were a bit inspired by it.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-09-23

ahem... but maybe the maker of total recall were a bit inspired by it.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-09-23

makers!! with an s!!

StanleyPain - 2014-09-23

Most of the class warfare stuff in Total Recall was, believe it or not, the result of David Cronenberg's original script back when he was actually going to the be writer/director.

yogarfield - 2014-09-23

Reeeaaally Stanny? My god, a Total Recall with more body horror. Sign me the fuck up.

StanleyPain - 2014-09-23

Personally, I think it's one of the great crimes of cinema that Cronenberg has never made a Philip K Dick adaptation as I think his film making sensibility is absolutely perfect. Existenz is pretty close, but it would be fucking amazing if he were put in charge of something like Valis or Flow My Tears.

StanleyPain - 2014-09-23

Wow...welcome to POETV where a discussion about PKD and Cronenberg happens on a video about some reality TV attention whore who has a surgically implanted third boob.

Nominal - 2014-09-23

This is going to sound terrible but I've tried getting into PKD recently and I just can't do it. First one was Electric Sheep and I chalked up the robotic characters to theme, but it was the same deal with Man in the High Castle. He has the exact same characters in each novel (simpleton repairman, blue collar slob unfairly judged by his unloving wife, woman loosely connected to the killers who brutally kills at the end) and the endings always fizzle out into someone having a figurative stroke . And...am I crazy in thinking Bladerunner was way better? Or really any of the movie adaptations?

Am I just reading the wrong stuff?

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-23

A Scanner Darkly (but skip the movie, I haven't seen it but there's an exactly zero percent chance of it not sucking and I really don't want to associate some recent Linklater crap with such a good book).

yogarfield - 2014-09-23

A Scanner Darkly (film) has some worthy moments. I will come completely clean and say I absolutely could not get into 'Flow My Tears..' because the prose was horrific. It ranks high up with 'The Brave Cowboy' on my Instantly Unreadable Books by Authors I Respect list.

memedumpster - 2014-09-23

Flow My Tears would be a waste of Cronenberg. Give that man Divine Invasion or VALIS or don't waste his time.

OZ, you make me want to read it just to see if it will make me hate the movie.

Nominal - 2014-09-23

Scanner Darkly movie had Downey doing a great tweaker impression but was hard to sit through overall.

GravidWithHate - 2014-09-23

Nominal: PKD wrote a lot of fairly low quality books when compared to what he was capable of. IIRC there was a period in his life when he was basically on amphetamines churning out novels in order to have enough money to eat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_K._Dick_bibliography

I really like a lot of early Philip K Dick; but I also like Lovecraft. I'm willing to forgive a lot of a writer who can evoke a particular mood very well.

If you haven't read "Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said" and "A Scanner Darkly", I'd try those. They start to get away from the issues you mentioned. I also quite liked "Ubik", "Time Out of Joint", and "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch". But YMMV on those.

Wow. She must have spent YEARS surgically stretching her chest skin in order to fit another boob in there.
