Stars for that goddamn song from Brain Damage.

Zircon, what percentage of your apartment would you say is taken up by 25+ year old electronics?

Old_Zircon - 2014-10-03

Maybe like 15% tops if you push the cutoff up to 15 ears, but I've got a pretty small apartment.

fedex - 2014-10-03

19,200 baud?!?! WHOA WHOA WHOA SLOW DOWN MAN YOU WANNA BREAK THE INTERNET SPEED LIMIT?!!

Boomer The Dog - 2014-10-03

Seemed slow, you might want to have gone directly to a site that's more text based, like Wikipedia.

I saw a video of someone using a modem from the early 1960s, in a wooden box no less, and Wiki was drawing at a readable pace. The computer itself was newer though.

It would be interesting if you could use the laptop as a proxy, and to filter out all HTML and send preformatted text to the IBM's browser.

It's been running SETI At Home for about 10 years. It's completed 5 work units.

Raggamuffin - 2014-10-03

Owning a computer back then would make you an expert in computer science, but only because you had plenty of waiting around time to read all the manuals and imagine all the stuff you could be doing.

Potrod - 2014-10-03

We found one of these in the garbage a few years ago. My brother ended up selling it on ebay for like , which seems like a waste.

Simillion - 2014-10-03

fun! I used to play muds on library ansi terminals when I was like 8-11years old.

gravelstudios - 2014-10-03

I remember reading somewhere about a guy who managed to get his IBM PCjr connected to the internet (text only). I grew up using a PCjr, so I know how much of a feat that must have been.

Old People - 2014-10-03

I don't understand the nerd shit, but stars for the racist ditty!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-03

It's always good to have one old computer running in text mode. I just got an old P3 running slackware without x, It's great for text editing with emacs without all that distracting desktop shit.
