Very happy. But very surprised Lynch would revisit any of his creations.

Now, maybe someone will soften him up enough to re-cut and extend Dune to his liking at around 3 hours length? Hmmm...that's about as likely as a polar bear riding a sandworm.

infinite zest - 2014-10-06

I always thought Inland Empire and Mulholland Drive were sort of the same thing, but I won't get into details. You probably know about the TV cut that's about 3 hours (mostly filler that breaks the fourth wall with illustrations from the book and stuff;) I'd love to see a brand new Dune, but directed by Lynch. I refuse to see it get the JJ Abrahams/Jos Wheadon treatment! Je Refuse!

spicediver - 2014-10-06

Indeed I know Dune too well. It was I who authored this fan cut: http://www.fanedit.org/ifdb/412-dune-the-alternative-edition-redux

That recent Dune script that Paramount passed on in 2011 is now in limbo. No takers as far as I know.

Oh, and someone over at fanedit.org is inserting some of the newly-released deleted scenes from Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me back into the original. Interesting that Lynch didn't do it himself, but that's Lynch.

BiggerJ - 2014-10-06

People have been waiting for years and years for those deleted scenes to be released (in the Complete Mystery box set). I wonder if anyone literally died waiting.

BiggerJ - 2014-10-06

Oh, not Complete Mystery, but the new Blu-Ray box set.

fluffy - 2014-10-06

My understanding is that Lynch wanted Mulholland Dr to be a Twin Peaks spinoff series, but it ended up developing into a standalone feature film instead.

infinite zest - 2014-10-06

You could also make the argument that Beaumont and Cooper are the same person, the "in one ear and out the other" approach of the story being Cooper's dream, or the other way around..

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-06

I'm gonna say it again. Nicholas Cage as Bob, FUCK YEAH!

Albuquerque Halsey - 2014-10-06

That show you like is coming back into style

StanleyPain - 2014-10-06

It will be interesting to see what kind of story they come up with. Mark Frost says this will be in present-day, which means that 25 years have literally passed since Killer BOB got out of the Black Lodge. And, since a few of the actors from the show are deceased, the storyline will have to tread around that a bit. This will either be really cool or just really odd and either way it's still kinda neat it's happening.

infinite zest - 2014-10-06

Yeah.. Twin Peaks will always be one of my favorite shows. I was a little too young to get most of it when it came out, it was just some show my parents were watching, but I was hooked because it was the only mainstream show filmed in the Pacific Northwest at the time, and got me into David Lynch in general before I had seen any of his movies (except for Dune, which now says "Alan Smithee.") The impact this show had on newer shows like True Detective is clear and now that Californication is over I've been looking for something new to get into. Hopefully it won't be too tongue-in-cheek nostalgia-bait, but even if it is, it should be better than the new Arrested Development, or probably the second season of True Detective.

baleen - 2014-10-06

I was 14 years old when Twin Peaks debuted and was completely obsessed. It was a huge deal. If a girl liked it, I probably had a crush on her. You could draw a line through a high school to divide the interesting kids from the yobs based solely on Twin Peaks fandom.

BiggerJ - 2014-10-06

I wonder if any actors will choose not to come back. Who would be least likely to return?

infinite zest - 2014-10-06

I was only 9, but loved the parodies on The Simpsons and other shows that none of my friends got :)

infinite zest - 2014-10-06

Looks like Kyle's on.. I thought there was some sort of beef there at some point, but what's Twin Peaks without Cooper? I dunno.. is this going to be some True Detective type shit?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-06

For those who don't know, Lara Flynn Boyle has become a hideous casualty of botched plastic surgery. Would LOVE to see her in the new Twin Peaks!

And Nicholas Cage as Bob.

I wouldn't mind if the show was mostly new characters. I'd love to see Cooper as a twisted, morally desiccated version of himself after hosting Bob for 25 years, the killer this time.

infinite zest - 2014-10-06

That'd be rad. I might have spoken too soon. MacLachlan tweeted something about Twin Peaks and he's pretty busy with Portlandia, so I put two and two together, but I'd rather see him as a cameo than the Rambos, John MacClanes and Indiana Joneses. Speaking of Cage, Herzog made a smart choice casting him in Bad Lieutenant 2 instead of Keitel; it was an entirely different movie, and a movie I didn't see because I didn't know Nic Cage was in it (or that Herzog directed it.) I hope your theory is right, and it's a new cast in the same location. That's better than making some joke about the Double R turning into a Starbucks.

Scrimmjob - 2014-10-06

I wish Jack Nance was still alive.

betamaxed - 2014-10-06

I just need more Albert. It's a goddamn crime that character did not have a show of his own.

Scrimmjob - 2014-10-06

A minor character I always thought could have used more screen time or a subplot was deputy Hawk.

kingarthur - 2014-10-06

I was too young for Twin Peaks the first time, but I did watch Fire Walk With Me over the last year and was appropriately terrified. The idea of these supernatural entities just feeding off the pain, misery, and fear of the town is just incredibly unsettling and disturbing to me.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-10-07

yeah, isn't it great!

FABIO - 2014-10-07

Excited, but afraid when I remember the post-Laura plot of the 2nd season, in addition to pretty much everything else Lynch has lazily crapped out the last 10 years.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2014-10-07

My thoughts exactly. But maybe Frost can forge Lynch to true greatness once again.

infinite zest - 2014-10-07

I was about to say "hey! Mulholland Drive??" It's hard to believe that was 13 years ago. I thought Inland Empire was.. OK but I looked up his filmography and Yeesh. Not to mention Frost and the Fantastic Four movies.. AND it's shotime which probably means a bunch of tits and "fucks" throughout. Great for a show like Californication, but unnecessary for Twin Peaks. It could easily become another Blue Velvet, which I'm fine with, but I liked TP's relative innocence. Oh well, we shall see.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-10-07

This is a dangerous precedent.

memedumpster - 2014-10-07

I predict that in 365 days from the airing of the first new episode, David Lynch's name will only be spoken of with hate and spitting on the ground as a ward.

Tim Burton's popularity will increase by default.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-08

My log begs to differ.

If it's great, it'll be the greatest thing that ever happened. If it sucks, it will be because sucking was always inevitable, and either way, we should all be thanking Dave and Mark for most of the really great TV of the last 20 years. Bring it on boys!

memedumpster - 2014-10-08

I said nothing about the quality of the program.

Nerds gonna' hate it anyways.

Nominal - 2022-03-30

Spoiler: it sucked in the same way Last Jedi sucked. Rotely subverting expectations just for the sake of it.

TheInternetisFullofGenitals - 2022-08-02

Wrong.
