Maybe he was broke with lots of kids and a wife and the bad guy promised that they'd be taken care of forever if he sacrificed himself to kill Golgo 13. If I were a secret agent I wouldn't have seen that coming but I probably would've waited until he got off the elevator. Oh well, rest in peace, assassin guy.
