So "plastics" was the 3D Printing of the 1940s?

Something with legit potential to affect our lives in meaningful ways, but they sometimes overhype how much of the production process we'll be able to do ourselves in our own homes.

I don't get it. is this pro-plastic propaganda or anti-plastic propaganda?

Binro the Heretic - 2014-10-14

It's sort of a backlash to the hype made by the plastics companies.

Plastics were touted as a miracle substance that would replace all other construction materials. Of course, all this was coming from the advertising department, not the chemists & engineers.

When consumers soon realized plastic had its limitations, it became the butt of a lot of jokes.

And that backlash lasted quite some time; in the movie "The Graduate," the reason the mentor figure tells Dustin Hoffman to go into "plastics" wasn't because it was good advice (which in retrospect it WAS), but because it was seen as a huge joke, like this is what everyone was hyping up. It was like the old .com bubble at the time.

Isn't Donald Duck a fucking duck? Can't he fly?

Binro the Heretic - 2014-10-14

I think ducks are to Donald what apes are to us. His kind lost the ability to fly, but gained fingers for using tools.

Also, dogs are to Goofy what apes are to us. That's why Pluto is still so primitive, although possessed of a greater intelligence than a standard canine.

Pluto's sort of a canine parallel to a chimp.

This might be a dumb question, but w/r/t 3:23 or so, did we still think there were clouds and blue skies in outer space in the daytime back in 1944?
