I really loved Rainbow Brite when I was six. (shut up) And this just doesn't do it for me, either. I think it's mainly the character design. I don't like the thickness of the lines, especially around the eyes. it's just distracting.

I think it's because it's drawn in the same style as other shows that are 90% flippant (Fairly Odd Parents comes to mind).

And the horse. Dear god the horse. You expect to hear "I FEEL STRONG" come out of its mouth any second. (or at least a Ren & Stimpy line)

It's what happens when people recognize the popularity and impact of MLP FiM and try to do the exact same thing for a different popular 80s show. Pound Puppies did the same thing too.

Nominal - 2014-10-22

MLP is still mostly about teaching social lessons.

This just looks like it exists for self aware po mo humor.

Awww dammit you're right, RoUS. I was so happy when I saw the title of the video, but then I watched the trailer, and meh. I'm not seeing good things on the horizon. Everything, from the art style to the tone, seems off. The concept is great (I too enjoyed Rainbow Brite) and Emily Osment was as good a choice as any, but this looks like it'll fail on the launchpad.

Personally, I would reimagine Rainbow Brite in an animesque style, as a moderately gritty action-drama somewhere between Sailor Moon and Legend of Korra. Rainbow Brite always stood out as being surprisingly dark and serious for a kid's show about brightly colored sprite people, and the creative team should work with that.

Think about it: a cute version of Avatar would appeal to a broad audience, from younger children clear up to teens! This is also obviously meant to pander to 80s kids/ recent parents, the sort of people would enjoy watching a tasteful, thoughtful reboot. Valley girl dumbass Rainbow Brite and her sarcastic date-rapist horse? Not so much.

Maybe the giggling stoners on Adult Swim would watch this ironically, but it seems like the sort of thing only very young children will watch, and even they will forget it in a month or so.

IT'S FOR 6-YEAR-OLD GIRLS.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-10-23

A good remake of Rainbow Brite would basically just be Pretty Cure.

infinite zest - 2014-10-23

Adult Swim's already got Bitch Pudding and other examples of Lisa Frank on a bad acid trip for stoners to watch. This is just trying to do (and pardon my pun) a recreation of a different show's newfound success in its style and format, but that's a one-trick pony.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-10-23

I liked what they did with Thundercats (kind of) even though I only saw the first episode of that reboot. I was expecting something along those lines. This just looks like that hallucination Mabel had in Gravity Falls when she ate expired candy.

infinite zest - 2014-10-23

I keep meaning to watch it. As long as Snarf shuts the fuck up this time around I'll be happy.

The Mothership - 2014-10-22

So Rainbow Brite's a Valley Girl now? 5 stars for evil and confusion. I guess.... I don't know what to make of this.

Xenocide - 2014-10-22

I support your choices, Transsexual Rainbow Dash.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-23

That is Starlite. His predates Rainbow Dash by about nineteen years, one year if you count Firefly (who was G4 Dashie's foremare). He is a flying Earth pony, not a pegasus, and his hair color is reversed; Rainbow's mane, as everyone knows, has warm colors on top, cool colors on bottom. It's also worth pointing out that Starlite's coat is a completely different color, UNLESS you're thinking about the popular fan character, Super Rainbow Dash, who to the untrained eye may actually look quite similar in design to Starlite.

They're both egotistical, but that's where the similarities end. Rainbow is far tougher and a lot more badass, and she can make Sonic Rainbooms, while Starlite can only *run* on rainbows.

ashtar. - 2014-10-23

looks like sonic hedgehog to me

American Standard - 2014-10-23

Well, that sure did try hard to little effect.

-1 star because I want to see what they did to her little gang of color-coded henchfolk and was disappointed.

Scrimmjob - 2014-10-23

Also not pictured: the bad guy who looks like Ron Jeremy and the star sprites.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-10-23

It's all good
It's all Brite
Everybody gets laid tonight

jreid - 2014-10-23

A little late to cash in on that whole My Little Pony / "reboot 80s cartoons as flash animation" thing, I think.

E for Effort, though.

Gallez - 2014-10-23

When I heard the bass sound effect at the beginning and then the very serious fading intro text I thought this was going to be one of those Michael Bay parody trailers. I don't know if I should be one starring or five starring.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-10-23

I wonder what's going to happen when they run out of things to reboot.

fedex - 2014-10-23

Molly Ringwald? really?

fluffy - 2014-10-23

Internet memes and valley girl jokes, and the cheapest shittiest animation possible. I guess Molly Ringwald will be in just about anything these days.
