Seems all but one shot was fired by the sergeant at arms (Kevin Vickers). He saw the shooters barrel about a foot away, dove to the ground right in front of the shooter and emptied his clip.

One shot entered the national library, supposedly fired by the crackhead.

A crazy man was in the Quebec capital in 1984

Another sergeant at arms (Rene Jalbert) acting honorably.

Our right and honorabl prime minister was hiding in a closet. It seems his party of oil barons will now push to pass draconian laws, because a mentally deranged drug abuser, with no ties to terrorist organizations decided to act like a crazy person.

Oh Canada, how I mourn for thee.

One of the most useful parts of the parliamentary system can also be the shittiest. The party that had the most representatives voted into office forms the Government, the party leader becomes the Prime Minister, and if they make up more than 50% of the seats in Parliament, they can basically do whatever they want without serious debate. Party members who don't vote along strict party lines risk being kicked out of the party, so typically it Just Doesn't Happen.

The opposition parties can raise a stink when , and maybe make a headline or two, but ultimately the party with majority control can pass whatever dumbfuckery (or, you know, universal medicare program) they want to.

Even the bad PR that can come with, you know, enacting unpopular sweeping privacy-violating security measures might not guarantee that the ruling party gets booted out in the next election, if the majority of opposition votes are split between multiple opposition parties; We can either vote for the monolithic Conservative Party or one of three flavors of Socialist-Lite. Whichever single party gets the most votes wins the district.

My best friend since forever (we met in kindergarten and are still friends this day) was the section commander for the soldier that died at the war memorial. He got to be at the center ice memorial at the Ottawa game to represent his unit and will be in the funeral procession.

I'll be trying to get there tomorrow to support him. I'm not fond of the military, I'm off two minds about it, but he's having a hard time with this and needs support.
