"They must not discover my technodrome."

[anncoument over the PA system] "All foot, return to the technodrome."

Innocent Bystander - 2014-10-29

Also:

"My mighty foot soldiers beaten by a bunch of turtles! And mutant turtles at that!"

So you'd be happier if they were beaten by regular turtles?

fluffy - 2014-10-29

This show is a lot better when you realize just how much of it is self-parody.

Prickly Pete - 2014-10-29

Entire series on YouTube eh? Who gives a shit. I mean seriously, we all have fond memories of it growing up, but is anyone going to watch that now in the age of Netflix and DVR's? Are you really gonna rehash a show from the 80s that we've all seen a million times when you could watch, like, idk, Mad Men or something? This concludes today's unnecessary indignation...

oddeye - 2014-10-29

While I agree that worthless cartoons like this are only for kids, Mad Men is shit. So yeah, better example next time buddy.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

I thought Mad Men was shit, but it finally picked up in Season 6 and has actually been quite enjoyable since! There was a reverse shark-jumping moment, where Betty Draper fantasized about raping Sally's thirteen year-old friend, and ever since then the show has been a completely awesome parade of stabbings, fuckings, and dudes getting shot in the face.

Prickly Pete - 2014-10-29

Good god, way to completely miss the point. Fine, if not Mad Men then insert any show that you do like there. All I'm saying is that TMNT doesn't even crack the top 100 when it comes to shows you want to check out but haven't/shows you already like and would like to watch again. I can't read your fuckin mind, idk if you like Mad Men or not. The placeholder there was inconsequential. What is wrong with peoples' reading comprehension these days?

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

I am being serious, BTW. Mad Men was always an amazingly well-written and well-acted show, but it was also boring as all hell. Nothing ever happened! People went to work, people came home from work. People went to work, people came home from work. Over and over and over again. There was a small hook, very early on - Don Draper had a Mysterious Past! Oooo! But then like, three episodes later, the mystery got solved and it was like, oh, OK. Back to watching people go to work.

Ugh, sooooooo boring. It's like getting sucked into a Jane Austen novel about Fairfield County, Connecticut! Glad I toughed it out, though, because seeing a prep school kid get his face punched was well worth the price of admission.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

Oh, and fuck Pete Campbell! Sniveling little Deerfield shit! ALL DEERFIELDERS MUST DIE!!!!

StanleyPain - 2014-10-29

I like how we're comparing Mad Men to some cheesy Saturday morning cartoon like TMNT.

Nikon - 2014-10-29

It's not really a fair comparison. TMNT had ninja fights, trips to other dimensions, aliens, robots, etc. and all Mad Men had was people going to and from work.

Old_Zircon - 2014-10-29

Between the two, TMNT certainly had a lot more cultural impact. It was the first major success AFTER the loosening of restrictions on marketing toward children that happened in the late 80s, and it's a huge milestone on the path that has led us to the existence of things like bronies.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

Bertram Cooper was a weeabo; you'd think he could hire at least ONE robot ninja.

infinite zest - 2014-10-29

Donatello Draper. It all makes sense now.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

I would LOVE to see a remake of Mad Men, only with an 80s cartoon/anime vibe. Creative could be a ragtag bunch of martial artists, the Account guys could all be sentient robots. Bert Cooper is a fat perverted frog-sensei, Roger Stirling is a wisecracking mech who looks like Briareos from Appleseed, Peggy Olson is a half-cyborg Shinto warrior-nun, and Joan looks just like April O'Neil. Betty is a shape shifting kistune who turns into different animals depending on her mood; in one episode, she is a pig. And Don could be this hard-bitten cowboy-knight with a pirate patch over one eye, who wins over corporate accounts by besting their hand-picked champions in duels to the death within the under-city ruins of Old New York. We could work the Road Rovers in there somewhere, too.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

Oh, and Pete Campbell would be this retarded faggot-ass dragon who constantly gets his butt stomped in, because he's from Deerfield and that's what Deerfieldians get.

infinite zest - 2014-10-29

I'd hit that shit

Boomer The Dog - 2014-10-30

All riiiight Homer, the Road Rovers, SOS, Save Our Show. Funny thing is I never watched the Turtles, even though friends of mine were into them and had the soundtrack and things like that.

Your Betty character who shapeshifts into different animals sounds cool.

Boom

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2014-10-29

Ooh, is the one where they make those pizzas that grow monsters when they're cooked on here? I remember that one.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

The meatball aliens, right? Everyone seems to remember that one for some reason.

Nikon - 2014-10-29

It'll be fun to watch some of this now and then. This is pure nostalgia.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-29

I watched that episode with my ex-fiance years ago, thinking it would be a fun nostalgic trip. It was not. It was really stupid.

Of course, now that she left me and I've slowly gone insane, I might be more receptive to that episode!

Old_Zircon - 2014-10-30

You should check out some of the really bad later ones when they'd run out of ideas (but before they completely changed the art style). The one that sticks out to me is when they go to Paris but Shredder shows up and magnetizes the Eiffel Tower.

It's phoned in so hard.

Innocent Bystander - 2014-10-29

Damn. It seems I still remember that first episode by heart.

5 for pointless nostalgia.

Nominal - 2014-10-29

My memory of watching the first episode was my father walking by just as Splinter says, "And that is how we became the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". His laughter echoed through the house for about a minute.

craptacular - 2014-10-29

the internet stores our memories of television for us indefinitely and can be recalled at will. revisiting past favorites is a click away. we can carry our childhood favorites with us wherever we go.
i guess i don't want to be defined by living with my past media consumption as a badge of who i am. it's like there's no personal progression there. it's going to be very strange to be a 50 year old gamer, playing mario 64 while rewatching TMNT, laughing at splinter's and shredder's antics... all because my memories of media are not out of reach and my social circle will probably be doing the same thing.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-10-30

I guess there's a difference between living it and going back once in a while for a visit. I do think the sense of continuity is good, plus curiosity about why some show might have been important to you.

The Qubo TV channel has Night Owl, which is running all He-Man and Ghostbusters cartoons to adults, 'for the kid in you'.

Boomer

Scrimmjob - 2014-10-29

I don't remember ever liking this show. However I do remember watching it willingly at least 5 days a week.

gravelstudios - 2014-10-29

Doesn't anybody know what an aspect ratio is? Sorry, just had to gripe.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-10-30

Hey Gravel, I'm guilty too, I don't change the aspect ratio on my TV, so I'm watching standard aspect as wide at times. My brain adjusts and then I don't see people as fast and squished or the oval circles.

Boomer

Old_Zircon - 2014-10-30

At least it's not interlaced.

Kid Fenris - 2014-10-29

Compared to some other shows from my childhood, this isn't so bad. Yes, there are about eight hundred better series to watch, but there's sly humor alongside the cheesy jokes, and the self-mocking tone is an improvement on all of those straight-faced cartoons that sold us toys during the 1980s.

My favorite part of this was spotting the voice actors pulling double duty. Check out Rob Paulsen and Cam Clarke as the cowardly cameramen!

fluffy - 2014-11-01

And of course Rob Paulsen is Donatello in the new series, which was lampshaded in one of the episodes. (And it has a lot of other fun references to the old series too.)
