This is just the damnedest thing. Is there a paranoid contemporary conspiracy theory that isn't represented here?

The first movie was like one million times better than I thought it would be. If you haven't seen it it's like Brooks' Blazing Saddles meets Kusturica's Underground having a baby and Laibach does the soundtrack.

This might be a little too sharkjumpy vs. the first one, which was nearly perfect. I studied under a professor in college who pretty much single-handedly got Kustarica's son out of Sarajevo during the conflict, and I took his film class for fun writing one-acts based off of Wolfenstein 3D

You know, there was an engineering component to something like Ghostbuster or Who Framed Roger Rabbit? or whatever your favourite imaginative movie from your childhood is. People wanted to tell a new type of story and there was only the available technology on hand and people had to come up with creative solutions to make the movie work. Now, with CGI, that limitation is lost. Now there's no barrier to anyone's lack of creativity.

or utter silliness.

I think it goes both ways: go back and watch original Terminator: the scene in the bathroom is so incredibly fake by today's standards and I admired Terminator 2 because the whole nuclear bomb scene was done with buildings made out of Matzo Crackers. Avatar? Every Terminator movie post-2? Shitty plot with incredible CGI. Same goes with Star Wars. I was fine with the improvements in the Special Editions until they took stuff I liked from the original away, like the bar scene in the third one.

Iron Sky's different: the effects are very low-budget, and the whole movie was made for under a million. The story's what drives it even though the special effects look like they're using the Unreal Engine or something.

the first and second Hellraisers would fall under that condition, IMHO. Just the sheer feelings of dread and sexuality within such a limited budget boggles the mind.

Needtodestroy - 2014-11-08

Interstellar brings so very much of that back. The quantity of practical and in camera is staggering compared even to some of the films mentioned here.

Also, stars for Hellraiser 2. Matte paintings and maquette.

ShiftlessRastus - 2014-11-08

Clive Barker is making the Hellraiser reboot, and he says that they will use as much practical effects and as little CGI as possible. Hopefully CGI will only replace the matte paintings.

I think the comparison of Interstellar to Hellraiser pretty much sums up why I like poeTV so much.

Here are my stars for President Repalin.

They flew from Washington to the Antarctic in a UH-60? Ridiculous. Otherwise, this looks pretty accurate.
