NERDS PLEASE ADVISE I AM CONFUSED

Scrimmjob - 2014-11-20

If the dickheads who make you pay way to much for the internet think something is bad, and are willing to pay for advertising to tell you about how bad it is. You can basically rest assured that said thing is really great.

EvilHomer - 2014-11-20

It's a complex issue, but it's worth pointing out that our previous, simple, net-neutral system worked just fine, but every person of substance involved in the discussion right now is a two-faced little weasel and whoever wins the argument will find a way to fuck us.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"? Fucking commies!

Seriously though; "Net neutrality makes small companies that don't take up much bandwidth at all, pay more, so that big companies can pay less."

That makes no sense if you treat all bandwidth the same. The companies don't pay anything. Plenty of actually good comments in the youtube discussion for once.

This is why critical thinking should be a required class in school.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-11-20

That makes sense, but in this situation, I think a folding chair upside the head would be more appropriate.

> "Net neutrality makes small companies that don't take up much bandwidth at all, pay more, so that big companies can pay less."

This is an argument I've heard many times from the anti-neutrality crowd, but it never seems to hold up to scrutiny. In my experience (and feel free to correct me on this, anti-neutrals), telecoms want to do away with net neutrality so that they can institute tiered data schemes - that is, they can impose artificial blockages on certain types of data and not on others, then charge extra fees to consumers and content providers for the privilege of bypassing these artificial constraints. So yes, in a sense, with net neutrality out of the way, big companies would pay more than small companies - but big companies would also get far better service, and small companies would be forced to choose between service that is affordable and service that is actually competitive.

She probably *is* a Commie, though! Net neutrality can't really be reconciled with the principles of Marxist-Leninism, although in that case, the biased data treatment of a NN system would need to be overseen centrally by the state, not decentrally by the people (at least on paper; as China has proven, even the worst communist can become a capitalist once reality crashes in). Therefore, I propose that we all gather together in the town square, tie this woman to a rock, and throw her in the lake. If she is a Communist, she will drown; if she is not, then God shall intervene and He shall save her life!

It is only fair.

"...Google needs more than the high school blog, and they already pay for it with the aforementioned server, networking equipment and internet access fees. Then they need to deliver, which requires using roads built by the telecoms and no one else. I say "roads" because that is a good analogy for the relative wear and tear on networking equipment, too. The internet access fees and their accompanying products already cover these expenses and vast fortunes of profit to boot. Telecoms want to ADD more fees, as if their "roads" are fields and wear at a vastly unrealistic rate."

That's from the youtube discussion, it's a good description of whats going on.

FreedomWorks is a Capitalist organization that doesn't want much of a government. If she and her organization were textbook Communist, she'd want no government and "common ownership of production", which is historically called Socialism. It's just funny that FreedomWorks' rhetoric isn't sophisticated enough to write bullshit that isn't using some of the same language as the "Communist slogan". I don't think it goes much beyond that.

Maggot Brain - 2014-11-20

Get you're act together, Freedomworks! The you could do was cold corps, with no eye brows, and a deviated septum? You couldn't even spring for a warmer light gel to make her look less dead?

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-11-20

You can put lipstick on a golem, and it's still a golem.

Maggot Brain - 2014-11-20

So they're trying for the 30-50 year old single Jewish female demographic?

That guy - 2014-11-20

YOU GUYS, don't let the big companies have their way! Oppose net neutrality!! We've always been at war with Eastasia.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-11-20

That is a LOT of forehead, there.

I love how you can see her eyes move as she reads off the teleprompter.

Blue - 2014-11-21

Why in the fuck does Comcast want this? If internet turns into cable, their profit margins get razor thin. Right now they pay nothing at all to Netflix, Amazon, Facebook, or eBay despite the fact that those companies are what people are buying access to.

You know what they call the "slow lane" in cable? A takedown. The content creators do that when the cable company isn't paying them enough money.
