NYT review made it sound scary as hell. Anybody seen it?

Old People - 2014-11-27

Yes. It deserves all the praise it's getting. There are a couple stupid/generic parts, but on the whole it's one of the finest horror films I've seen in years.
For full effect, it's best watched alone at night. Found a decent copy at www.allu c.org.

If you're into Australian horror, and not the bullshit splatter or jump-scare variety, try "Lake Mungo" as well. It's a bit slow at times, but there is one brief, hideously frightening and weirdly tragic scene that alone is worth the price of admission.

And while I'm at it, "The Loved Ones" is a ridiculous Aussie splatterfest that is absolutely awesome. I'll never be able to hear the song "Not Pretty Enough" without picturing a mangled dude fighting zombies in a pit.

Fantastic film that has more to it than just being scary. Best to go into it blind. Don't watch the trailer, it makes it look like generic crap.

Didn't we hear someone call someone else "a babadook" on the Sopranos once?

Pillager - 2014-11-28

"Mameluke" was the term used.

Marmaduke's badonkadonk.

Old People - 2014-11-28

I'm pretty sure Governor Christie has referred to some of his more vociferous critics as babadooks.

No theatres near me are showing this yet, and it pisses me off.

Hey, whadyaknow, Comcast had it on On Demand. It was very good. Some elements reminded me of another recent Aussie horror flick, Honeymoon, which I also enjoyed.

Just watched it last night. It was pretty decent. Recently, my favorite horror movie has been "You're Next". I really liked that.
