The audio and video are WAY out of sync.

infinite zest - 2014-11-26

It works fine for me (as of 6:00pm PST) but I tuned in during a live sequence. I might be mistaken, but I think Manos Hands of Fate was horribly dubbed, one of the least of its crimes. Crow's mouth looks fine in the cinema.

infinite zest - 2014-11-26

*correction* "beak"

yogarfield - 2014-11-26

Audio in sync here.

Let's spend part of Thanksgiving together, you fuckers!

(Also thanks to whoever frontpaged this. I didn't know it was possible to do that to anything but your own submissions. Site continues to amaze with its mysteries)

fluffy - 2014-11-26

I tuned in during a host segment and the video was about 30 seconds behind the audio. It wasn't just a "badly dubbed old movie" problem.

fluffy - 2014-11-26

Looks like it's been fixed since then. When I was looking all the comments on youtube itself were complaining about a/v sync too but it's fine now.

YAY!!!

yogarfield - 2014-11-26

(Oh nvm, it was voted through. Those votes weren't showing up for me? First time for that. I love this fucking jalopy!)

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-27

Manos was shot with a single 16mm silent camera, with all actors voices dubbed in post-production. Some actors' parts were dubbed by different actors, most notably John Reynolds (Torgo) who committed suicide while the film was still in post-production.

infinite zest - 2014-11-26

I really, really wish I had this as an option when I was a lonely college freshman when all my friends went home to their midwestern towns and cities and the idea of me going home for Thanksgiving for 3 days was both financially and logically near impossible. I drank a bottle of Tequilla mixed with grape gatorade and watched the 6th Day in an empty movie theatre because everything else on campus was closed.

yogarfield - 2014-11-26

I DON'T WANT TO SEE TORGO IN SOMETHING SHEER

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-11-26

MST3K's Turkey Day is the greatest of American traditions.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-11-27

I started watching right at the wrestling wives in Manos. What a happy day!

infinite zest - 2014-11-27

Depending on when you started, they were just streaming Manos over and over until noon EST on Thanksgiving day. This one has a whole bunch of Joel intros. It's times like these that I wish we had live comments like the youtube link. Happy thanksgiving, or thursday, or both.

TeenerTot - 2014-11-27

THANK YOU!

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

My whole family is watching this, although I might go for a walk with my dad since the next one is a late Mike Nelson episode.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

But on the other hand, there's Alan Hale...

infinite zest - 2014-11-27

I just got over to my parents' house, and I don't think they know I'm taking breaks to watch it instead of helping in the kitchen (I get off the hook for most cooking because I'm vegan) and I don't know if I should tell them it's on, because we might just wind up like Jack in the Shining

infinite zest - 2014-11-27

hehe. My mom and dad got distracted by the Wisconsin Georgetown basketball game. One year my mom made me a Tom Servo halloween costume, which was pretty much just two foam spheres, used before as Phanto from SMB2 and Pac Man before that, but is now just a basketball costume.

chairsforcheap - 2014-11-27

Yayyyyyyyyy haapppy toikey day!!

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

My parents won't even stay in the room if Joel isn't in an episode. I'm proud of them.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

Supposed to be a reply.

yogarfield - 2014-11-27

My mom refers to mst3k as "that stupid shadow show".

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

This Joel/Mike alternating format really highlights how much better the Joel episodes are.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

The Mike stuff has some good moments but it's less consistent and the skits are awful.

Raggamuffin - 2014-11-27

My feeling: The Joel host segments are much better, but the Mike era riffing is a lot tighter.

sosage - 2014-11-27

Popping in to POETV to say...WTF?!?

Not that I think either is superior (they are both funny), but Mike episodes not being on par with Joel's? Voicing that opinion would get you kicked out of my house on Thanksgiving...and we'd keep the casserole you brought...and return the dish to you unwashed.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

Season 5 is probably my favorite, although some of my favorite episodes are from season 3 and Mitchell is still probably my favorite.

sosage - 2014-11-27

I'm a big fan of Mitchell (and Joel from season 3 onwards). So I won't ask you to leave. I will put on Space Mutiny in the background, though, while we clear the post-turkey dishes.

Oktay - 2014-11-28

For real!! As it happens, we just finished watching Space Mutiny before I wandered here, and even though I'm a Joel guy, you have to give credit where credit is due: SM is up there with Manos, Mitchell, and Gamera vs Guiron for me.

Oh and yeah, I don't really care for (most) post-Joel skits. But keep in mind, Mike has always been the head writer, so we might be enjoying his writing without realizing it.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-28

For the record I meant Season 4 not Season 5 above. Season 4 is the most consistently awesome for me, but some of my favorite episodes like Wild Rebels are earlier than that.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-28

And yeah, I think mike's writing is funny I just don't like him as a host as much (I also liked him as an extra in the Joel era skits) and I don't think he's totally to blame for the things about later seasons that I don't like. A big part of what I don't like about the Mike stuff is it feels over-rehearsed to em, but then the first season and even part of the second season often feel underrehearsed and kind of disorganized. I suspect that seasons 3 and 4 are when Mike and Joel had a really strong dynamic going and were bringing out the best in each other. If my experiences in bands are any indicator, those times can actually be the most stressful behind the scenes because you're really pushing each other and there's often a lot of tension and confrontation. It's a real balancing act, if it's not fun enough it falls apart but if it's TOO fun there's a big risk of getting lazy and self indulgent.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

I gave up and switched over to Catalina Caper.

Oktay - 2014-11-28

Tanks.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

I feel like the mike era stuff is more accessible and polished but less clever. The tightness is a big part of what makes me like it less, actually. I can still enjoy the Mike episodes that have Trace but during the original run I pretty much stopped paying attention somewhere not too long after Santa Claus (easily the best Mike eisode I've seen, even now).

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-27

That was also supposed to be a reply, fuck Chrome for Android.

Nikon - 2014-11-27

This was fun, and I needed this hit of happiness and nostalgia. The only gripe I have is youtube locking out people from commenting in the chat "too much" while the video is playing - but that's where new riffs were being written.

Kabbage - 2014-11-27

I am a Mike man, but dang they picked some solid Joel eps for this. Had it on during Thanksgiving and it was a success.
