That other guy in your party used to kill jedi and his method was basically shoot at them a lot and use bombs and shit, stuff they can't parry.

EvilHomer - 2014-11-29

HK-47 is both one of my favorite fictional robots and one of my favorite RPG companions; number 2 and number 4 on the lists, respectively, assuming you don't count romantic interests.

Kabbage - 2014-11-29

Let's see the full list there m8

Kabbage - 2014-11-29

(That was supposed to be a reply to EvilHomer)

oddeye - 2014-11-29

Terminator and that floating skull from Planescape: Torment (Mort I think)

craptacular - 2014-11-29

i bet it's Nalia

EvilHomer - 2014-11-30

Oh! Well, that is rather flattering, thank you Kabbage for your interest. I will try and limit myself to the Top Ten of each list, as I know from experience that some people here do not like lists, and I do not wish to overdo things and make a social mistake.

Please note that the first list is strictly for inorganic Robots: no Cyborgs (thus no Inspector Gadgets, no Battle Angel Alitas), no Cylons, no Mecha, no AI/ Software constructs. This division is necessary, because otherwise the list would be full to bursting with Masamune Shirow and BSG characters! I have decided to leave non-cybernetic androids in with the list, as you will see. The second list is sorted as Male/Non-support/Non-romantic Interest (if we included Female companions, or worse, Female characters including both companions and non-questing support characters, then HK-47 would be way down the list, possibly even bumped off of it). It should also be noted that Favourite RPG Companions is a tricky list to pin down, since my choice of companion would be heavily dependant upon the world in which I found myself, and the sort of quests which I would face; Mort the Skull might be a great choice in a high fantasy, dialogue-heavy environment, but a serious liability in a real world, Masquerade-dependant setting like the World of Darkness. Therefore, this list should be considered tentative at best. Both lists are subject to change and should only be considered accurate as of 2014/10/30.

(official correction: earlier it was stated that HK-47 was my Number 2 Robot. He is actually Number 3. I apologize for any problems or confusion that this error might have caused.)

Top Ten Robots:
1. Bender 2. GIR
3. HK-47 4. Data
5. Claptrap 6. Wheatley
7. GlaDOS 8. D374-TP
9. Unnamed Robot from Presence, Robot Carnival 10. Prower, Puncy Sonichu's personal Samurai Pizza Bot

Top Ten Male/Non-support/Non-romantic RPG Companions:
1. Minsc (Baldurs Gate) 2. Sabin (FFVI)
3. Dogmeat (Fallout) 4. HK-47 (KotOR)
5. Deekin (NWN) 6. Mort (Planescape)
7. Alistair (Dragon Age) 8. Khelgar Ironfist (NWN2)
9. Bunduk (Mount & Blade) 10. Adoring Fan (Oblivion)

craptacular - Nalia was nice and I did all her side-quests, but I played BG with Imoen for RP purposes, and thus had little need for an extra Mage/Thief. My core party from BG2 was Me (Kensai), Minsc, Aerie, Viconia, Yoshimo/Imoen, and Jaheira, so Nalia'd be pretty far down the List, even if the List was just for Baldurs Gate companions!

She was my favorite default portrait for Female Player-Characters, however.

oddeye - 2014-11-30

Where Minsc goes evil stands ASIDE!!

I love him too but I can't stand Jaheira.

EvilHomer - 2014-11-30

Yeah, Jaheira was a pain in my butt. I strongly disliked her, right from the moment I met her. I kept her around in BGI mostly out of a sense of obligation; she was whatshisface's friend, and the first major quest involved finding her, so what would be the point of it all if I just kicked her out immediately? In BGII, I only took her because she was there at the start of the game and you really don't have any other choice. I intended to kick her to the curb the first chance I got, and her spot was usually the "alternate" one (so I could bring in third-tier characters whose stories I wanted to explore), but every time it came to a point where I could drop her for good, I felt... bad. I couldn't do it. I'd let her back in the party. We developed this weird quasi-romantic relationship in an almost eerily organic fashion (we stayed friends; I was also romancing Aerie and Viconia at the same time, and shit was getting weird, particularly with Aerie. I blew up on Aerie because she was whining during a particularly tense foray into the Underdark - I mean, really, blew up, I was getting legitimately pissed, like "I can NOT coddle you right now, there are drow wizards EVERYWHERE, SO SHUT. UP!!!" - but it was cool because after our breakup she hooked up with Minsc and she was good for my bro). I dunno, the whole thing with Jaheira, it was like that song from My Fair Lady: I'd grown accustomed to her face. I wound up dragging along J-woww clear up until the last hour or so of the game, when I finally dropped her once and for all in favour of Sarevok... but I felt terrible about it, and I RPed it out so I was simply promoting her to "Commander of the RearGuard" - leading Nalia and the others at camp, because there was no one else I'd trust to command my entourage.

I'd like to think that after I became a god and Viconia skipped town (the unfortunate side effect of successfully turning her good), Jaheira and I would keep in touch. Jaheira would be one of my chief messengers, like a personal Harper agent, acting as a go-between for the mortal realm and my own celestial domain, a Valhalla-like realm with a rainbow bridge guarded by the now full-sized giant space hamster, Boo.

Sanest Man Alive - 2014-11-30

Bunduk? Really? Not that he's bad or even dull by any means, but I found the bromance between Firentis and Jeremus more compelling.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-02

Firentus and Jeremus were both nice, and they, together with Bunduk and Marnid, constituted my "core" group of followers. They probably had better backstories than Bunduk; however, Bunduk was the first guy I hired, way back before Jarl Turya first took me under his wing, and Bunduk was arguably my most loyal and dependable follower aside from my wife. He was very well balanced, and, while he got eclipsed on the battlefield by heavy-hitting specialists like Alayen later in my military campaigns, he remained the most tactically flexible lieutenant I had, clear up until World Conquest was attained.

He didn't even ask me for a fiefdom of his own!

1000 XP!

Kid Fenris - 2014-11-29

I remember liking this when I played the game, but it feels kinda boring now.
