The interesting thing when you really reason about the unlimited infinite is that it's ALL terrifying. There is not one non-terrifying scenario. The thought of death as oblivion and the universe going on and on with you not there to see it is ball-freezingly scary. Heaven and hell, by virtue of being FOREVER, are also freakish. So is an endless cycle of reincarnation.
You can have one of two reactions to this:
The Ligotti: Existence is a nightmarish obscenity, and in fact any possible existence is also a nightmarish obscenity, as is the absence of existence.
Anyone Else: Huh, the human brain clearly didn't evolve to reason dispassionately about an infinite universe, so when I try it gets freaked out. Guess I'll keep things in perspective (or NOT in perspective, as it were) and go about my day. Oh look, tits!
There is another theory I saw talked about where we are fucking up the scale of the big bang, and that our massive universe expanding is really just a tiny big bang just about to happen at a completely different scale, and that it will just keep expanding and banging and its only the scale of perspective which changes over time.
